Just curious as I have never played the PC version but did play the SNES version back in the day. How did this compare to the SNES version? Better? Worse? Equal?

Better, for a few reasons. For one, the story makes sense as it wasn't translated three times. (English > Japanese > English), secondly the SNES version didn't have support for a pointing device which made control…less than delightful.

the SNES version is weird in logic. the story is stripped. but the SNES version is great for its soundrack alone. otherwise, I'd go with this version. it also has a few subtlties in additoin to storyline. the PC version was made in 1989, the interface is a bit weird and no automap. there are nice little thigns, for instance inside a castle the time of day adjusts in the windows dawn/day/dusk/night just like outside. the soundtrack is repeditive but not too bad. Other than the music in the Japaneese SNES version, this one is better. I gave it a bad wrap in my review but have played it long enough to know it is better in game content even if the track is not that great.

The SNES version is WAAAAAY better.

Here's what the PC version does worse:
-Dumber character pathinding (they get separated easily inside castles)
-No map (not even in the manual)
-No compass
-God-awful UI that has you pressing 2 different keys just to save or load, among other things
-DRM pop-ups that demand a code from the manual (these seem to be hacked into accepting any 5 characters in the GOG version, plus there's a pdf included with the real codes)
-Dodgy joystick support that doesn't really work

Here's what the SNES version does better:
+Enemy sound effects
+Musical soundtrack

Spare yourself the agony of PC gaming in the 80s/90s and just emulate the SNES version. The story sucks and doesn't really make sense no matter what, so you may as well go with the Chinese Whispers French>Japanese>English version for the laughs.
