When leaving certain screens, especially those leading onto the "world map", the game tends to freeze quite frequently. The only thing to do is to terminate the process using the task manager.

Anybody got an idea how to fix this?

I already tried experimenting with compatibility mode and administrator settings. Didn't help much unfortunately...

try enter the configuration file located at the game folder (dosboxDragonsphere) using notepad, under the [cpu] section change the "core" from "dynamic" to "auto". Make sure you make a backup for that conf. files before make any changes. I also encountered this problem before i made those change.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried the game yesterday and it happened to me too. I thought it might just have been me having swapped a bit of times before fullscreen and windowed.
Impressive though, it did manage to kill my mouse control too. Had to Ctrl-alt-del the program and use keyboard only to select and kill it, as the mouse wouldn't work.

I have to force log off when it happens, Quite annoying too.
Splendid! No crashes for ages after changing the configuration file.

Thanks a lot, wormholewizards!
My wife is playing it on Vista Having the same issue forcing her to log off. I'll go try this. Tiss a sucky glitch but if this fixes it then that sounds easy enough.

Looks like it works. It was locking up quite a bit, but not one time since the change. How on Earth did that get pinned as the problem so quickly?

The freezing happens to me too (on Windows 7), and it is possible to get back to desktop by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del, opening task manager and terminating DosBox process.

I'll try the configuration modification tomorrow.

The dynamic core can often cause trouble in some games on Dosbox, so it's a quick one to note. And since it froze up often there's a good chance wormhole has had the problem and fixed it himself.

I've had quite a few dosbox games by now where I needed to avoid the dynamic core to get things working smoothly.

Yes i encountered this problem at the beginning, it was quite often too. I read Dosbox manual, it stated that some games are not compatible with dynamic core. The games might have problems or not working at all. So i compare the configuration files with my other games that used dosbox such as Pro Pinball and Pinball Gold. I noticed only Dragonsphere using dynamic as the core setting.

Still, i don't understand what is the advantage of dynamic core.

The advantage of the Dynamic core is that your computer does some tricks to optimize code run through it, rather than intepreting.

Think of it as compiled and run native code vs. interpreted on the fly script. It allows for a lot better performance using less resources for the same in-emulation performance. But some DOS based programs used a lot of fun hacks to get things working optimally, and these might cause problems when run through the dynamic core.
Hi guys,

I tried the solution, and when I tried to save the changes to the file, i got this message:

"Cannot create the C:\ProgramFiles\GOG.com\Dragonsphere\dosboxDragonsphere.conf file.

Make sure the path and file name are correct."

Does anyone know what I should do?

First you need to copy the conf. file then paste in on Desktop (or any folder beside Program Files). After complete editing it, paste it back to your original Dragonsphere folder.
I have the same problem (downloaed the game yesterday). I haven't tried the solution with the config file yet. But if it works, I wonder why GOG did not change it in the downloaded config file?

Maybe they just overlooked it. Sometime dosbox based game can be quite picky and tricky at time. Some configuration might works or not working at all for certain system. Most dosbox games that i bought here have some little problem such as sound and visual stutters that required some tweaking of the conf. file.

Still, the site promises us with games fully compatible with new systems. I'd expect them to provide working configurations. At least, when they see there is a problem with a specific option that affects majority of the players, they could change it in the package. I understand it is not possible to test every game on every configuration, but with our feedback they could in time improve their games.
