Hi,
This is probably a beginner question, but what’s the best strategy for progressing in this game? I’ve spent about 15 hours playing so far and am really enjoying it. However, I understand that this game plays differently from traditional Western-style RPGs.The gameplay feels somewhat cyclical — monsters constantly respawn, new side quests appear in the same locations as I progress, there are only a few main quests, and so on. How should I approach this? Should I explore the entire map (or at least a significant portion) and then revisit areas as I progress and unlock new quests? Or should I just proceed in a more straightforward manner? So far, I’ve been focusing on exploring and leveling without thinking about it too much and I have been really enjoying it, but I don’t want to miss anything important in the game.
Thanks,
Ondrej

Why, that's the best strategy, playing the game the way you enjoy it.

It's thematically about a cycle. As for respawns and new quets appearing, that's just the way the devs try to achieve replayablity value. Since you can, and definitely will, miss some content by design on your first playthrough.

The idea is this:
- Main and side quests will only take you to some areas on the map. So there's no plot reason to go anywhere else.
- Now, as much as main quests are handed to you on a silver platter, side quests appear (and disappear) in various location in Gransys as you progress the main quest line. So be sure to check out the NPCs in both towns as well as in two bandit camps, to see if they have a job for you; every time you progress the main quest line a bit.
-The reason to venture to a bit more places all around the map is given to you by notice board assignements. Very, very boring chores that are all about earning coin, eventually some rare item.
- there are also escorts, that also appear on notice boards. The way they appear is bound to the Affinity mechanics, tl;dr it's about how much a given NPC likes you. And in the end escorts (as well as side quests) are about one of NPCs becoming the so called "beloved" to your character. so be cautious who you are doing quest for because you may end up in bed with them ;)
- And the rest is covered by curiosity, I guess. Going astray may get you to sources of a better equipment, resources necessary to enhance it, or trouble. It's up to you to decide if you are satisfied with the default activities or want a bit more.

Anyway, the end game is all about looting and killing monsters, if you do not enjoy aimless wandering and fighting, you will not enjoy that.

BTW I'd advise at least finding a drake (a smaller red dragon) and fighting it before you'll embark on a journey to fight The Dragon. it's a good training.

I understand. Thanks a lot. I guess I will just wander through the map for a while, try to discover most of the regions and after that, I will progress in the storyline and re-check the main cities and camps for new sidequest time from time.

DDDA is a wonderful open-world adventure with lots of role-playing potential. Test out everything, it's quite fun to do so!

Did you know you can carry NPCs? Who says you have to escort them for quests the normal way lol.

BTW, watch out when running along cliffsides. it's fun to skid to a stop, until you notice your Pawn skidding too...right off the edge...of those same cliffsides lol.

The world is full of surprises, so enjoy discovering as many as you can. :)

Also, once you played it at least once, if you still like the game enough to try it again, consider a few mods. Nexus has some amazing mod authors.

I focus mostly on QoL mods (bugfixes/balance issues/etc. mostly things the Devs should have updated, but didn't) and visual enhancement mods (better landscape/flora/fauna/NPCs/player character/etc. mostly giving it that HD treatment, but keeping performance in mind).
