I just found this it is similar what OpenMW is to Morrowind and OpenRA to the first two Command & Conquer.
Well it is probably the best that can happen to this game meaning no more crashing or at least as much no more set affinity no more 4gb patch.
Bad thing it is not nearly ready I would help but i have no programing skills.
