Bought Dragon Age: Origins Ultimate Edition yesterday,,,game will not even launch.

My system:
Windows 10 Pro Version 22H2
i5-4690K @ 3.50 GHz
16 GB Installed RAM
nVidia GTX 960 2 GB (not 4 GB version)

Installed first time via Galaxy after purchase.

Press 'Play' in game library in Galaxy and very small configuration window for the game opens...I set my resolution (1920x1080, full-screen) save and then click play at bottom of that window. Configuration window closes, and then...nothing. Play button in game library changes from grey back to active color.

Ran verify/repair option...then tried again with same lack of results. Logged out of Galaxy, shut down computer; then restarted everything, ran verify/repair second time...then same results (nothing...)

Tried launching game directly from the 'exe' file (...>games>Dragon Age Origins>bin_ship>DAOrigins.exe)...nothing at all happens. Tried with and without 'administrator privileges', and tried each compatibility mode one after the other (Vista, XP, Win7, Win8, along with the service packs)...nothing at all happens after clicking 'run' for the 'exe' file.

Uninstalled game, deleted start-menu files/folders and re-installed game using the offline down-loader/installer outside of Galaxy.
Shut down computer, then after restarting tried again to run directly from 'exe' file, trying each compatibility mode one after the other, and again NOTHING happens -- no sound/music, start-up screen...nothing to indicate it at least tried to start and crashed.

Read a lot of stuff via Google regarding launch issues, but saw in multiple places that the latest 'GoG version' supposedly included the needed 'fixes' (GoG version 1.05 GOG 0.8 was just updated 20-days ago). I'm basically 'computer illiterate' -- I can use the games & software, etc. -- but know basically nothing about how the 'magic' happens inside...so I am not comfortable trying to manipulate code/files, etc. and hoping someone can explain in simpleton's terms how I can fix this, before I refund.

Thank you for your time and assistance.

EDIT: Note, I have just the 'vanilla' version of the game as sold via GoG store -- no mods or third party patches, etc.

I honestly wish someone would address this. I have the game and installed it on my desktop and laptop, and I run into the same thing on both. Start the game, get the little window pop up and when I click to launch the game, nothing happens. You're running Windows 10, so my theory that maybe it's a Windows 11 issue is now out the window.

I am not sure what is the state of the current/most recent installer. Checking the recent posts on this forum, it seems like there are still some issues left unaddressed since the "Patch Disaster" about a month ago... You could try the same fix I did here to see if that fixes your issue: https://www.gog.com/forum/dragon_age_origins_ultimate_edition/105_patch_disaster/post6

I have the exact same problem, and I don't know if I can even get a refund. I bought the game years ago but never installed it, partly for fear that it wouldn't work. When I saw that it was now part of the new GOG preservation program I decided to install it since the game page says that it has been verified to work on newer systems and on WIN10/11. What a crock! Now I'm feeling super nervous about all the other games I bought as part of this new preservation program. Are there ANY trustworthy companies in the videogame industry anymore? They all say one thing to get your money and then do the opposite or what they give you doesn't work. I'm going to see about refunding any games I can, I can't be wasting my money on useless stuff. The worst part is that I can't even find the reason/cause for it not working.
they updated something related to the number of cores the .exe uses now, i wasnt able to get it to stop crashing in game until i enabled all processors under affinity in task manager

besides that i havent run into the issue of blackscreen on launch. rather strange really

is it only on the launcher your using or does it also do this with the .exe directly? (play game via exe)
