***PROBLEM SOLVED, SEE MY LAST POST***

Hi,

I installed Downfall on Win7 64-bit without any issues. When I launch the game, the main menu with "New Game" / "Load Game" / "Exit" appears with the music, I can see the white crosshair cursor but it doesn't move. Also, there is no animation as it should be, it's all frozen.

Technically I can click on "New Game" by guessing the position of the Windows mouse pointer in the game window, but even then, I can hear the opening music, but the screen is tuck at the main menu. I have to force-close it because I can't click on "Exit Game".

I tinkered with every possible setting in the EXE's Compatibility tab, the game is set to run as Administrator, no improvement.

I also experimented with the AGS settings. I unticked the 85Hz setting because I'm running the game on a laptop at 640x480 resolution. Again, I tried every single setting, to no avail. The only thing that works is that I can run the game in a window as opposed to full screen and I can see the Windows mouse pointer disappearing when I mouse over the game window, but the crosshair does not take over as it should.

All my drivers are up to date and most Gog games I own, even the older ones, work well.

I opened a ticket with support last night so let's see what happens next. I'll report here if a solution is found.

There's a slim chance that from Winsetup.exe you need to "Disable MIDI" under the sound settings tab.

Also have you tried Alt+Tabbing out of the EXE and then back to it to see if it recognizes the mouse then?

You say you're using a laptop - have you set it to High Performance Battery Mode? Sometimes this can cause an issue.

Thanks for your suggestion. Disabling MIDI didn't solve it. The laptop is not in High Performance Battery mode.

Alt-tabbing out and back in did something interesting though - it "recorded" the mouse movement until the focus was back on the game application. Then, the game froze again.
Thanks for the info, sorry I wrote a little misleading - High performance battery mode should be turned ON for some AGS games if playing on a laptop. It's a reported issue, may work? Sorry I made it sound like it being on is the problem, but it's a possible solution.

No worries, I really appreciate your help. Battery modes have no effect in this case. The issue seems to be with colour depth. It should be 16-bit, and I can't find a way to override this in the AGS setup application because the option is greyed out, and idea?
Hi there, it's grayed out because it already is a 16bit color game. It would only be available to click if the game was 32 bit (which in this case it is not).

Have you tried right clicking on the games EXE file "Downfall.exe", and choose a compatibility mode for it? Try changing it to a compatibility mode for other Windows and also try the display settings underneath that. If I remember rightly, this helped someone else with a similar issue.

EDIT: Oh, it seems that you have. I'll have to do some more searching then.

After perusing the graphic properties, switching the colour depth from 32-bit to 16-bit in the Intel HD Graphics menu did it for me, full screen or windowed. Once I'm finished playing the game, I switch back to 32-bit.

Problem solved :-)
Great, glad to hear it!

I've been having a similar problem, i wouldn't call it a lag problem, in fact i dont seem to have any mouse support at all. I get to main menu screen, hear the main theme, but cant do much from there, except alt-tabbing out.

I've tried the OP solution of lowering my color depth to 16-bit to no avail. Only way to make it run was to open acssetup.cfg, and force it to play windowed... any other workaround in mind?

I'm running Win7 Pro on a Lenovo i5 laptop; neither the track pad, nor the button or an usb mouse seem to work.
Hello, I bought this game recently and came across the same issues as well. I had lowered the colored depth to 16 bit and set the game to run in windowed mode and it actually started working. While I'd normally call it a day after that, there's one issue that's bothering me: the window itself is small, with no way to expand it. Perhaps if someone could give me an idea of where to go from here, I could finally fix this once and for all. Any help/ ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried messing with filters in Setup application?

I have tried adjusting the filters in the ASG settings, but none of them had any noticeable effect. The only one that seemed to do anything was the 2x nearest neighbor filter, which made it a little larger at the cost of picture quality.
