Hi !

your game looks awesome !

Do you have a linux version planned ?

Best regards
It's working fine for me here. Simply run:

>> wine "setup_dorfromantik_0.1_(64bit)_(45830).exe"
(file "setup_dorfromantik_0.1_(64bit)_(45830)-1.bin" in the same folder")

It installed, created a shortcut on the desktop. No issue so far in the game, visuals and sounds look okay.
(I did see 4-5 error messages pop-up at the end of the installation process, but that's not the first time with the gog installer.)

I'm using Linux mint 20 (5.8.0-44)

It would be nice to get a native Linux port for this one.
With Linux version available I'd get the game right away.
You can't expect every single game developer to create a Linux port for 2% of players. That investment might not even return.

Though I'm a long time Linux gamer, I agree -- except that Dorfromantik's made in the Unity engine, which has a Linux export option -- so the decision has nothing to do with "creating a port".

That bit aside, the game runs great in Wine 6.1 Staging. The only problem I've encountered so far is on a multi-monitor setup (or in windowed mode) if the game window loses focus it's not able to properly reacquire mouse lock for menu control.

Note: The above issue is fixable by going into winecfg under the Graphics tab and checking "Automatically capture the mouse in full-screen windows"

Anyway, great little time killer of a game and it's pretty easy to get up and running on Linux.

So? How big is the Gamemarket? This 2% are Millions of potential customers!

Amyhow there was a Linux Demo already ;P

Hmmm... works fine for me on Steam with Proton 5.0 or 5.13.

In December 2020 it was 0,78% according to Steam Survey as I verified my theory. So it's a bit less than one million users. Let's be realistic - A year of Linux won't come so quickly ;) I know that for Linux users it's hard to be realistic but yeah... that's just how this world works.

And if the game is on Unity then it sure might be a little less risky to port it to Linux.

I often end up loading more complex games in Proton (GE) if need be, but I always like to try a stock wine build first. Valve's a great company, but I just can't get behind DRM, no matter how popular it is -- been gaming for over 30 years and never had a Steam account ;)

Anyhoo, if the focus loss isn't an issue in Proton, maybe I'll try swapping it out.

You tried changing focus in windowed mode to another window and then back without issue?

btw, here's The "Judas does this run in Wine" writeup for Dorfromantik -- I'll update it if Proton happens.

Sorry, there will be no native Linux build in the near future, we made one for the early prototype we shared on itch.io a year ago and encountered some problems we weren´t able to reproduce. We want to focus on finishing the game itself first an maybe have a loot at it afterwards

yes, I'm playing it in windowed mode. Using other applications besides. To get the focus back I just click on the window.

Sure, if you ever make another linux build and running into problems then feel free to ask. Maybe we can help you with the problems :)

Good stuff. Confirmed the mouse lock issue is fixed using Proton 5.9 GE.
Writeup updated accordingly.
Please compile it for linux, too.
If it is made with unreal engine, it should not be a big deal.

I will not pay for a windows only version, but i would buy the linux edition, even if this edition would cost a minor higher price.

Maybe, some steam-games do not work under linux - command & conquer or my time at portia for example. So, people, who want to play it, will use an windows VM or a separate installation in dual boot. So, the linux users will be counted at minimum twice as windows users too.

An other fact is, that not every linux gamer use the steam platform. Why should I run steam, when I've bought my games on gog? - Gog galaxy does not have a native linux support, but it run's mostly well in wine-staging.
But because of the lack of linux-support,gog can not make a serious linux market analyzing.

I can say, more of the systems in my circle of friendship use linux in several instances and they mostly use gog as prefered gaming library. ... and a minor windows dualboot configuration, because of some issues with special windows games like command & conquer - these ones use steam, too, because this games is not provided by gog, maybe it would run in wine, when it would be provided by gog.
OK, my time at portia does not run as it should (no input device work in my wine config - did not find a solution right now), but maybe wine will fix it by time, because they give out an error text with the hind that the feature is not implemented right now.

that it sells a lot, to finance the linux version
