So I just installed Doom (the original) and played a nice round of it to make sure everything was working fine. I save and closed the game and to my horror my screen turns upside down with the resolution being really close up.

I was able to fix it but I really don't want this happening again? Anyone else have any issues with this and what can I do to prevent this from happening again?

Sounds graphics driver related. Beyond that, without knowing what system specs you have and what you are using to run the game, I couldn't say what the cause is.
So I just tried again after updating my graphics card (which ironically sent out a new update today), played it a bit, quit the game, and my Windows screen came back all nice and normal. I don't know whatever or not if I needed to reboot the computer or the update fixed it, but it seems fine now.

Still freaked me out seeing it originally upside down though. O_o
There are Windows shortcuts to rotate the screen (Ctrl-Alt-arrow key), which can be a pain when the same keys are used in games.

With Doom's default control scheme (ctrl for firing, alt for strafing, arrow keys to move), you're quite likely to make these shortcuts accidentally. So the best is to disable them altogether in the Intel graphics control panel.
