I use GZ Doom for playing Brutal Doom, but the sound is not working and I still have the fmodex.dll for each. deleting the GZ Doom files from each GOG doom and putting fresh ones in from my GZ Doom zip file does not work. Any help on this?

EDIT: I've now tried using the latest version of GZ Doom but that didn't work either. I do point out that it still has fmodex.dll in it.

GZ Doom works fine in it's own however. It appears to be an error code 77.

It also seems to be missing slime textures

I also add that reinstalling the Doom games from scratch as well as getting a new copy of Brutal Doom V20b does not work either. Again, only the sound in GZ Doom works on it's own with the old MIDI etc. not the mod when I load it.

It can't be a bad configuration file because the fresh install removed the old GZ Doom player config file and it still didn't fix the fucking thing.

FMOD EX error code 77 is apparently FMOD_ERR_TOOMANYCHANNELS for this version of FMOD Ex.

Try changing the value of snd_channels to something lower. (You can do that in the sound options menu.) Then quit, and restart.

Also you're apparently using GZDoom 1.8.2, which is quite old. Be aware, if you update to GZDoom 2.2.0, that:
- the FMOD version it was compiled for has changed, so you'll need to replace the fmodex.dll with the one provided with the new GZDoom.
- Brutal Doom has a coding error that was ignored before ("0.l" is not an actual number) but which GZDoom will now complain about, and Marcos Abenante has stubbornly neglected to fix it even though it's been nearly a year now.

That said, if you do upgrade to GZDoom 2.2.0, and FMOD Ex still doesn't work, you can now use OpenAL instead of FMOD Ex.

I changed to 2.2.0 after the problem started last night but that didn't fix it. I'll try the channel thing. It didn't work last time due to my not restarting. It is currently 32.

EDIT: did not work, open AL is in the files but doesn't seem to be in the sounds menu, and when I try to restart the sounds after changing the MIDI device or the sound channels, it says in game that it is initialising Fmod and not the one I set it to. I think this also showed in the previous version too but I'm not sure and can't remember.

The new channels were 24, 16 and 8. None of them worked.

It is the Fmod from 2.2.0 too. When I try to put Brutal Doom over the main exe file, it shows me this error instead and does not launch at all.

Found out what it was: it was my sound setup the whole time. I lowered the maximum speakers and the sound works now. D'oh!
The error message is what I was saying about coding errors in Brutal Doom; l (lowercase L) is not a number.

Yeah, I switched back to the older build once I found out what the issue was and it works fine now.
