Great that GOG has gotten the rights to sell the games here on the site!

I thought that GOG would have provided Linux versions of the games as they have with other DOSBox games. I understand that it might be the case of keeping support requests at launch to a minimum, but when can we expect to see the Linux versions added?

you could download Zandronum: https://zandronum.com/download . If I have some spare time I could upload a precompiled version of ZDooM for linux, if you are interested.

by the way GOG could ask Chocolate DooM developers to include their source port, since it's under GPL license. (IMHO)

Thanks, but no. I know it's fairly easy to setup a source-port or copy the files over for DOSBox on linux, but I'd like to see a supported installer from GOG :)

Why do we still not have a port of the "Doom" series for Linux-based operating systems (such as Ubuntu and SteamOS)?

From what I understand, it shouldn't be too difficult to pre-package the series in DOSBox, and I hear that the (classic) "Doom" series runs particularly well in DOSBox... Plus if I am not mistaken, the source code is Open Source now (as mentioned above).

So how much longer must we wait?

I have the entire series sitting on my "wish" list, and I intend to buy them all the moment it's made available for Linux-based operating systems...

C'mon guys, it's not hard!

I'm sure that there won't be an official Linux version. From a technical standpoint it would be very easy and there is demand for it, therefore the reason that it hasn't been released on GOG has to be Zenimax blocking a Linux release.

Probably something like this.
It can't be for technical reasons, since the game is running in dosbox anyway.
Little of Doom under Linux using GZDoom (self-compiled) with modifications. As a side-note: Execution is on a notebook using [url=https://libreboot.org/]Libreboot! :)
I'd bet five bucks that it's partially due to the deals GOG needs to make with developers. Sad but true, DOSBox releases are spotty in compatibility in general. It's even worse for OSX.

In the meantime, you could always just extract the files in Linux the "hard way" and then run it in your own DOSBox setup or Chocolate Doom (or some other source port, they all have Linux options IIRC even if they may be off the beaten path so to speak).
