I just got this game from the sale. And, I have played the 2016 one so I thought why not give it a shot to the original Doom.

And I realized that the ultimate doom has an old style fps controls so I moved toZDoom. Since, Zdoom supports modern fps controls that I am more comfortable with it.

So I have a question of whether it's ok to play Doom through ZDoom since I could be missing something out or other issues?

Unless you have some deeply personal preference on playing the game through DOS (and even then, if you did there's source ports that exist that try to stay as faithful - bugs included - to that experience as possible) then yes, it's perfectly fine to play through a source port.

As to whether you're missing out on something - there's plenty of ports out there, each with differing options/etc. If you want to try others, try them out. If you're happy with ZDoom, stick with what you like.

Download GZdoom and use that, as GZdoom is still updated by its maintainer:

Also, if you run into an issue where you don't see your guns or enemies, read this thread and check on your graphics card driver:

If it's modern controls you want but still want to retain the old school look of the game, i'd recommend Chocolate Doom or Crispy Doom.

Crispy Doom offers the option for a higher resolution and a few graphical improvements if you choose-- but they both retain the same DOS look of the original.
