EDIT: This topic was a victim of bad timing. There have been some reports of bugs going on related to DRPG, apparently DRPG got a huge premature update for the big RL Arsenal update coming up so this should be resolved eventually. In the meantime, DoomRL Arsenal works alive and well by itself in both GZDoom and ZDoom.

I figure since there are multiple tutorials for Brutal Doom, we should have one for another popular gameplay mode that's a little more complicated to setup. But first off, what is with this combination?

DoomRPG (not the mobile game) is as the name implies, a mod for Doom WADs that brings in very many RPG mechanics. Stats, skills, item shop, loot, a tiny bit of crafting, random events, and all sorts of things to experiment with! DoomRL Arsenal brings many elements from the roguelike DoomRL: classes, random rarity of weapons, new armor system, a modding system for weapons that can even upgrade them into others, randomized barrels, and a few monsters to boot in an addon. You put all these together and you have a monster of a combination suitable for any situation. I particularly like to run this using one great big Oblige-generated map, but it's also really fun for replays through the classics as well to spice things up. Literally anything can happen in this setup, so keep your wits about you!

1. Go here to pick up DoomRPG (either the download ZIP on the webpage or from GitHub, we'll be checking for an update anyway) and the launcher: http://forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?t=33292

2. Go here and get DoomRL Arsenal. Also get the HUD and Monster wads, this particular thing doesn't work without the monsters and the HUD is pretty important: http://forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?t=37044
2a. This would be the time to download .NET 4.5 if you don't already have it installed. The launcher requires it. Also make sure you have GZDoom. This works no problem in the latest.

3. Unzip everything that needs unzipping. Rename DoomRPG's folder to DoomRPG. Move everything to the same place as wherever you keep your Doom WADs. It's helpful in this tutorial to have most of your WADs in one place.

4. Open your launcher. Make sure to point it to the directories that need it. After that, click on the big red launch button once to make sure everything's running right. I always close it afterwards and reopen it after the first run.

5. Click check for update. If it says something about not having a branch selected, go to the dropdown menu that has "master" selected, flip it to the other option, then flip it back. No big deal. Another thing you might want to do while your at it is set the Map Number to 0 unless you want your game to autostart without an intro at the map of your choosing (and you don't want to do this for the first playthrough, as you have keys to map).

6. After updating go to the mods/patches tab. There will be two fields, one shows all your Doom-related files and one DoomRPG's compatibility patches. In patches check all things pertaining to DoomRL arsenal: the mod itself and the monsters. On the other end checkmark all three DoomRL Arsenal files and whatever other map WADs you wish to run it in. As a general rule, you can probably run this in any WAD that doesn't replace weapons or monsters (though there are exceptions to this rule). That leaves most of the thousands of WADs open for play, really.

7. Congrats, you're done with most of the setup! Don't forget that you have many keys to set pertaining to both DoomRL Arsenal and DoomRPG. You want at least stat, hud, store, armor special, skill wheel/activiation, and item drop keys mapped at first. I find the numpad helpful for a few of these.
7a. At game start you'll find two options: Hell on Earth is the main WAD (or vanilla D2) you chose, and the outpost is a sort of hub where you can sell excess weapons and battle in a monster arena. Among other things. You obtain a skill that can teleport you to the outpost at any time for free eventually, and you can go back to the last map you were at in a teleporter there.
7b. If you're command line savy, you can also add this package of improved sound effects. It needs to be done via command line because it simply must be loaded last: http://forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=49684

Enjoy! Oh, and before I forget... you're probably going to ask about Brutal Doom. I have no clue about compatibility so that usually spells "no" for this combination. Can't really be helped, sorry. You can enable fancy blood spats on the DoomRL side of things at least.
