This is basically Doom's Greatest Hits for every year. I just realized no one's brought this up, I'm surprised isn't in any sticky. I just thought of GOG while I was looking through these for something to play.

If you haven't noticed this goes past 10, they also put up new awards lists every year.

Here's a big list, much more complete, though it doesn't have writeups for each entry.

I always wondered if there is a list of the best Doom "total conversions". Most WADs seem to be level packs with or without slight variations to the weapons, but it seemed to me that in the Doom community there isn't much interest in mods that completely change the whole game, including none or only little of the original assets. At least for me it was hard to find such mods, like for example Action Doom 2, GoldenEye Doom 2 or Aliens TC. Theorethically, commercial Doom-clones from back then would fall into the same category, like Hacx, Chex Quest, etc.
Is there any way to find those more easily?

Standalone TCs tend to end up being supported by ZDoom as their own games, so you can look here.

Otherwise, for TCs that require the base game, there's a non-exhaustive list . Note: they are not necessarily good! You can also look forward for Wolfenstein: Blade of Agony, a Wolf3D-themed conversion which uses lots of fancy features.

My only other source so far has been Mr. Icarus' excellent Doom Mod Madness YouTube series, as he usually doesn't review map packs only, unless they are special in some way, although he does couple mods which only change up gameplay with suitable map packs.
