Do any of you create your own DOOM maps?
I make "eccentric" themed wads in SLADE3 and post them on MODDB
are we allowed to post links in this thread?
if so, it would be cool to see what others have made.
I try to stay away from DOOM dedicated forums. Some really great work is shared there, though not a fan of the gatekeeping personality's you'll find there.
It can be kinda soul sucking after working weeks or months on some silly wad and it just gets ignored as junk, I find even the dumbest of wads are still worth the effort of a download for a laugh, you never know what you'll find, especially opening up the file to see how they went about creating it is cool, even if the map is not. (then plundering the good stuff for your own maps har har har)
DOOM is pretty special in that regard as some kind of open canvas. (long as you're a moral pirate that provides a text file if applicable for source credit)
If you use GZDOOM it's really easy to download and instantly play a wad, and just as easy to delete it if the map is not to your liking.
I'm currently slowly working on a sequel to my ridiculous doom racing windows 95 themed map, this time instead of "racing" everything just moves quickly and one of the weapons is a button that immediately exits the map to another.
I'm not that learned on ACS coding so basically, I make my own textures, compile a ton of random items and enemies from other games & use just a bunch of DE hacked and decorate scripts etc. creating an interesting DOOM experience.
what are you working on?
