I created video how to redesign classic doom to new look. Maybe is someone interested. I use magic dosbox which can pick part of screen and place it to other location.

Doom has static status bar on bottom of screen with hero's statistics like health, ammo, armor and face. Each part can be picked and placed on other location with custom opacity and size. Few days ago I played with dungeon master 2 and re-designed it for portrait mode on my phone ;)
