I tried v20b seeing if I would actually like it this time. Nope. The game still lags around lots of blood, the weapons still shake the camera like there's no tomorrow, and the monsters still whine like crazy. I mean sure, you can fix some of these things w/ addons but I'd rather stick to normal doom over this fluff.
Brutal Doom is to Doom mods as what Cannibal Corpse is to death metal. It's okay, but overrated and there's so much better stuff out there.
When I first tried Brutal Doom, I loved it.

Then I tried Brutal Doom v20b. Suddenly I didn't like it any more and I couldn't figure out why.

Turns out before I was playing Project Brutality. That has 3 options for how to play:
1. Project Brutality
2. Brutal Doom
3. Normal Doom

I thought playing with the 2nd option (Brutal Doom) meant that it would play just like Brutal Doom. Nope.

Project Brutality is WAY more dynamic. There's more action, more violence, the enemies feel a bit weaker but there's more of them to kill and there's more gore, the sounds feel exactly right, there are additional mods that add little enhancements to the gameplay like a flashlight, a slide kick (which I enjoy), and the visuals seem better.

I recommend Project Brutality over Brutal Doom.

--

However, Brutal Doom v 20b has a new corpse dismemberment system which is fun and really feels nice when you throw a grenade or shoot an exploding barrel and the corpses are destroyed along with standing enemies.

When Project Brutality incorporates that, I'll be pleased.

Same here, I really got the V20b starter pack for the included mappack & to check out the corpse dismemberment system & I too prefer Project Brutality so I wait for PB to incorporate the enhancements

Note: the Starter pack's GZDoom did not function for me but the GZDoom I already had works fine though.

Which Project Brutality mode is this a description of? Only in Project Brutality there are new monsters (e.g. the Overlord) and some of them are very hard as they can cause massive damage in one hit. There are new weapons in it, too, to compensate I imagine (though I've not played enough PB to get them yet).

Overall, I switch between Brutal Doom, BDJ and Project Brutality. Love all three.

Mainly the Brutal Doom mode. Playing the Project Brutality mode, the enemies are tougher.

I think there are menu options that let you enable stuff from Project Brutality mode in Brutal Doom mode.
Am I going crazy? Project Brutality v20 had a flashlight, right? I remember using it.

I went to play Project Brutality today and I couldn't find the flashlight in the menu options anywhere.

I played around with Brutal Doom Johnny Edition recently, but it wasn't to my liking so I removed it. I used ZDL to run Brutal Doom JE as well as Project Brutality. After doing that, I don't have a flashlight in Project Brutality any more.

I tried removing and reinstalling GZDoom and Project Brutality, but not ZDL. I still don't have a flashlight.

So, am I going crazy? Do I remember a flashlight that was never there? I remember liking it. I remember seeing a different flashlight mod in Johnny Edition that felt too blue and liking the one in Project Brutality more.

Also, where is a list of Project Brutality cheat codes? I want more grenades.

I do remember a variant of Brutal Doom/Project Brutality that had a flashlight add-on, but I never really tried it. I prefer the UDV light. I'll see what I can dig up

Dark Doom has a "dd_flashlight.pk3"

Project Brutality updated to Brutal Doom v20b.

Destroyable dead bodies not included. *sigh*

Could someone make a mod with the slide kick and the health regeneration from Project Brutality so I can use them with Brutal Doom v20b? I'd also like the menu options for the health regeneration (on / off option and slider to set how much to restore).

Why do I want health regeneration? I like fighting lots of enemies without worrying about dying constantly. More enemies are only available on harder difficulty settings.
Does any of you guys know how to use the Doom 8x HD Sprites? I added the path of the .pk3 to the zdoom.ini file, but it load just some of the sprites. For example, when I get down to business with an Imp, it has two different sprites: the standard low res from Doom and one of the animations that comes from the HD Sprites. Is it normal? Does anyone of you use the HD sprites?

GreasyDogMeat: I hadn't really been trying a lot of mods for Doom
Boy are you in for a treat. There are thousands (oh yes, I mean it) of Doom Wads/Mods out there. Some of them make sweeping gameplay changes that make Brutal Doom look chumpy in comparison like DoomRL Arsenal. Or just a whole different take like GMOTA or Demonsteele. And there are no signs of stopping. Heck, there's even Megaman 8-Bit Deathmatch.

And you can even mix/match wads, meaning you can play big slaughter map Wad with big new guns/rules. Or you can even use something like Oblige to just randomly make maps for you to play. Pretty neat.

Despite the fact that Brutal Doom fanboys love the mod to death (even the novelty of Brutal Doom wore off on me), many of them don't even bother trying other mods like Smooth Doom or Action Doom.

And Brutal Doom being "the way Doom is meant to be played?" Oh, please...

I've always wanted to try Ultimate Super Doom 3 and maybe even play it within Brutal Doom as well. However, I don't think my brother managed to get it working. so I've just had to make do with BD.

A Devil's Castle mod for doom sounds nice if it exists. A Seal of the Curse one running on the Strife VE Doom engine as well.

I think there's even a ROTT 2 mod/WAD also.

Magmarock: Can't say I see what the drama is about? Is it because he didn't take the threat seriously?
He basically saw that the guy who was claiming to want to commit suicide was bluffing, assuming that if he was serious he wouldn't have made the cry for help, told him essentially to do it, and was afterwords labeled a pariah of the Doom community and banned, even though he's done more for it than most at those forums had or ever will.

TL;DR : He called the guy on his BS and was banned for it.
