I seem to be running to the market every five minutes in this game. I have alot of potions and gold. Does gold have a weight penelty to it? I'm talking about the game divine divinity.

Gold does NOT have a weight to it. Do you carry many foods? Some if them can weigh quite a bit.

FWIW, you can leave gold laying on the ground near vendors and it will be there pretty much forever. If you're paranoid, drag a barrel near the vendor and put your stash in there. But I haven't had any problem just leaving stuff laying on the ground - once you drop something, it apparently stays there forever.

No, but potion, food, lockpick, etc weight can add up.

If you are using a two handed weapon, check your equipment for a shield that may be equipped but disabled, as that will take up some of your weight capacity, as well.

You can collect chests to drop loot, excess potions, etc, in. You can leave one near any merchant you frequent, or arrange several at your home base, etc. Barrels also work (but can break if you click on them with your weapon drawn, which doesn't effect the contents but looks messy) and you can safely leave things on the ground.
I have the same problem as Poetsword.

The Stats window says I'm carrying quite a bit less than my maximum weight allowance, but I keep getting encumbered.

It's a little irritating, because picking up just a few items means I have to go back to a merchant and sell the darn stuff.

At present, I'm carrying no extra weapons or armour; my weight is roughly 1700, and my maximum is round about 2700. Once I get to roughly 1800, the encumbrance sets in.

Any thoughts?
Some weapons in Divine Divinity have a detrimental effect on your character's stats. For instance, they may drain stamina and I recall the effect of this is very similar to being encumbered.

I'd have a look at the effects of the weapons and armour etc., you've got equipped.

I hope this helps.

You become encumbered at 75% maximum weight capacity. Check your potion and miscellaneous inventory, etc. How many lockpicks / potions / food / scorpion traps / eggs / trail bomb ingredients / etc are you carrying?

In a particular save I checked, playing a warrior on level 13 my strength was 50, so my maximum weight was 2600 (1600 + 20*Strength). Without a bunch of food in my miscellaneous inventory (just 13 lockpicks (weight 39), a couple keys, gems, manuscripts and a teleporter stone) or extra weapons or armour (other than a ring with Repair +1), my current weight was 735 (using a two handed sword; a shield would have increased that by another 125).

You're absolutely right!

The encumbrance issue is kicking in at the 75% level. As an aside, in my case, it isn't the weapons and armoring stacking up, it's all the potions :)

Thanks!
