Hello!
Let me start off my saying that I'm running Divine Divinity version 1.005a
Now, the release notes for the Remastered edition (here) state that the weapon specialisation skills were changed to give a percentage bonus instead of a static one.
However, in game, all the skills except for the sword and axe that functioned like that before the patch, still have the same old descriptions. I'm not sure how they actually work.
This made me wonder if any of the skill changes submitted in the Remastered edition are actually active.
Basically, can anyone confirm that these skills work as they should, or if this is a local issue with my game i.e. your skill descriptions are percentage based.
Thank you!
cc
Edit: Can anyone check the in-game descriptions and post here if they're percentage based or with fixed numbers? Nevermind how they work, I just want to get rid of the possibility that this might be a local issue with my install.
Cheers!
End Edit.

I didn't respond to your post because I really did not know the correct answer. Rather than give a half correct answer I waited for someone to post an in-depth response. Seems everyone was in doubt about the answer to your questions. All skills seemed to work fine for me, playing through without a second thought about the skills inner workings.

I looked at the skills and took a few screen shots. They seem to be a combination of percentages and points. The armor was the same way with a few percentages and points. The weapon skills I tried to max out the one or two I used the most without regard to "how much" they increased my weapons effectiveness. (see attached image)

I don't think an improper install would affect just the skills. I believe it would affect many aspects of the game in general.

The only problems with partial installs have been on Vista and Win7. I recommend the following for those systems.

If running Win 7 / Vista - Did you ...

Turn UAC off before installing.
Install as an administrator. (Right click the setup.exe, click "Run as an administrator")
Install in a directory outside of Program Files.
Right click the game shortcut, click Properties, click the Compatibility tab and check mark "Run this program as an administrator".
Try using different compatibility modes, starting with the newest and working back to the oldest?

DD likes the newest video drivers so make sure those are up to date.

If you did the above then the game should be fully installed and reading / writing to disk.
Hope this helps . . . =)

Edit: Found this - With skills, when you see that something adds x+y damage, that means it adds x to x+y damage. (For example, the first point of "augment damage" adds 1+2 damage. That means it adds 1-3 damage.)

Thanks Stuff!

This pretty much answers my question. I am using Windows 7, but I think my install is actually working ok (I have the same skill descriptions as you do).

Have fun! :)

hey stuff could my problem with spears not giving me mastery and passive be caused by me not turning off uac. What is uac anyway?

It not likely. Still, if you are running Win 7 / Vista (especially 64) you could end up with a partial install which possibly might affect the game. UAC stands for User Access Control and can sometime prevent disk reads / writes during installs and game play ( if you are not running the game as an admin). If it does interfere then your [game | software | program] may not work as expected. If you are running XP then this is not a problem.

I believe it is a bug most likely.

If you installed by doing the tips above then your problem is not with a partial install. I have never used a spear (hard to believe even for me) so I'm not sure you actually have a problem or if you need to use it differently than you are. If I can find the time I will try to find an old save and try using a spear.

You could turn it off and see if it makes a difference. Go to Control Panel, Users. Turns off slightly different in Win 7 and Vista. (never notify in Win 7) See attached images. . . =)

I use Comodo for my firewall. It was popping up consent dialogs behind the game screen which I could not see unless I ALT - TABBED out of the game. Making the div.exe a trusted program in the firewall or ALT-TABBING out till every consent dialog as been OK'd would eliminate this problem. I doubt this is your problem but thought I would mention it anyway.

If i cant get a patch to fix this and my whole build will revolve around this, then i have no reason to play this game. Its sad too because alot of these games that have promise like dd are surrounded by glitches. Eh screw it, im gonna go try another hybrid in Din's Curse expansion pack.
