I was considering buying this game, the reviews made it seem like a sound purchase. After coming onto the forum however i'm wondering if it isn't anything more than a horror story of glitches and bugs. I'm on Vista 32 if that changes much. I'm not very tech savvy. I just really want an honest opinion on whether or not it's worth the money from somebody who downloaded it from GOG.

This is a great game but . . . because of some problems caused by the resolution upgrade in this release. . . it has been frustrating for many, myself included. I finished the game and found it to be one of the best RPG's I have played in years . . . if the bugs were not considered.
Larian developers are working on a patch which should be released soon. Having the developers actively patching a seven year old game is a rarity and demonstrates their genuine desire to get this game right.
After reading your post, I would suggest that you wait until the patch has been released. It really is a great game and one you should not miss once it has been patched.
Other DD gamers will respond to your question so check in often for other opinions. This is a fantastic gaming community and everyone will give you an honest opinion. If you are anxious to get started on a game, Sacred Gold is about the closest compared with DD (IMHO), read the SG forum as well since it is similar but not the same.
Edit: Oh yeah, it's worth every penny, especially once it's bug free

Well worth buying. Especially when the promised patch arrives.
Personally I've only encounter two crashes and when I consider the number of hours I have played this game, thats not a bad ratio.
If you like RPGs with a lot of story and depth and side quests - buy it.
My game crashes constantly, wait for the patch in order to save yourself a WHOLE lot of frustration!
I have to agree with the 'wait until the patch' crowd. I'm now stuck in this game, because there are a number of things I can't do as they will result in an immediate crash to desktop.
However, it is a lot of fun, outside of that!
don't but until the patch the technical support on this site is horrible
some game crashes constantly before a game continuing point. so i guess yeah, you should wait.

Definitely wait. That's what I'm doing.
well, depends. if this game goes on sale buy it because you are going to anyway.
it's that good.
start, play around, and then when you start hitting major crashes quit for a while. jion the rest of us eating bananas waiting for the patch to come out so we can start all over again (by then we will have helpfully forgotten the entire game, we hope, so it'll be like new!)
My opinion after playing the game for a few days is ....don't buy it. It would be a cool game if it didnt' have bugs all over thru it that make the game crash. Can't enter abby because npc are spinning in circles so the movie scene cannot complete, crashed after a few reload attempts. Cannot transform using the animal statues, instant game crash. Ranomly crashes when game feels like it. Find a better game this one is crap because of the bugs.

I'd definitely consider waiting for a patch. The bugs are frustrating. You can avoid some of them, or persevere through the many crashes, but it just makes the game less and less enjoyable.
Also remember that GOG usually does not provide separate patches for their games. If a patch is released for a GOG, GOG staff usually update the game files, build new installer and upload it so users need to redownload the whole thing and do a complete reinstall.

Thanks for the info Petrell, I was wondering how the patch would be released.

Well Larian Studios is making it so it depends wether or not they decide to provide standalone patch but AFAIK Divine Divinity is available only on various digital distribution services so they'll probably just send the patch to them and let them handle the patch distribution to end users.

There was a post in another discussion where one of the GOG people stated that their "hassle free" policy dictates that they must issue a new installer rather than patches. So regardless whatever Larian decides GOG will issue a new installer and everyone who already started will have to reinstall.
I'd post a link but I have a tough time trying to search these forums. The main forum search seems to only search topic titles, unless I'm doing it wrong which is quite possible.
edit: Damn, I see you already stated that above, Sorry.
