I'm beginning to experience VERY frequent crashes with Divinity Original Sin. It usually happens when I press either the journal key, the map key or when I change zones. It's never the first time, though. As a result, the game rarely stays open more than 15 minutes.

Is there a way to stop these crashes? Or do I have to re-install the game?

Did you install or update anything, or change game settings, around the time when this started?

Have you checked other demanding games or programs? This doesn't seem like a hardware problem, though one person did experience crashes frequently opening the map/journal after saving the game, due to low memory. They were using a 32 bit version of Vista, and lowering the texture quality fixed the problem (they could raise it again after upgrading to a 64 bit version of Windows).

Are you shutting down all non-essential programs (especially anti-virus) before starting the game? Firewalls have also caused conflicts.
There was one conflict with Daemon Tools reported which cause frequent crashes (every couple minutes, in that case).

Have you tried lowering the graphics settings and resolution, etc, to see if that would have an impact?
One person reported stability problem if they had Ambient Occlusion enabled, but the game was fine if they disabled it and enabled it in their graphics drivers. You could try disabling all the post processing in the graphics options, etc. If there were no system changes, though, I'm not sure why settings that worked fine before would start giving a problem, though.

If you create a new profile and start a new game, can you open the map and journal repeatedly? You could drop the difficulty level and head to Cyseal if you wanted to check changing zones (getting the first star stone to open the homestead).

I don't have time to check all these solution (I probably will tomorrow), but I can tell you the following:

- I'm running Windows 7 32-bit with 4 GB of RAM
- I have an ATI Radeon HD 6800 and I run the game at 1280x1024 (the highest resolution my monitor can handle).

I don't recall making major system changes. And also, my brother (with another user account) never had a problem with this game before.

Some people with memory issues have been helped by increasing the setting for how much memory Windows allocates to programs. See a post in the topic save still causing crash after latest patch.

Is he playing at a lower game resolution, or with different graphics settings (particularly texture quality)?
Do you have any extra background programs running, etc?
