I'm having the same trouble as the other person with the loading bar. I played the game fine for awhile and then one time it glitched out. When I restarted and tried to play the game again it will freeze 1/6 through the sword/blood loading bar. I saw the other post on this issue. I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling the game and rebooting my computer with no effect.

Stuff: Windows 7. I've turned UAC off, I am trying to reinstall to a folder not in Program Files now. :)
Edit: No luck getting it to run. Same problem even installed to C:\Games

Make sure when you uninstall, you delete all the remaining folders under C:\Program Files\GOG.com\Divine Divinity before reinstalling. Installing outside of Program Files solves problems for some folks. Still, delete any left over directories prior to reinstalling.
When you install, make sure you right click the setup.exe and click "Run as an administrator" in the resulting dialog, simply double clicking the setup.exe may result in a partial install.
After installing, right click the game shortcut, click Properties, click Compatibility tab, and check "Run this program as an administrator". I usually don't run in a compatibility mode to start with but work my way back from newest to oldest when I do.
You should also make sure you have the latest video drivers installed as well.
I always use the "S" key to save since the quick save seems to corrupt saves occasionally. Takes about the same amount of time.

Stuff: No luck so far. I made sure my old copy was gone and deleted, installed as admin, ran the game as admin, and the same bug reappeared even after restarting. Worked my way through the compatibility modes. Now I am thoroughly confused. I can understand a bug corrupting an install of a game, but how is it that a clean install will not run, even though my original copy of the game did? Is there anything else I can try, I really like this game :)

You might try a registry cleaner, I use CCleaner (the slim build at the bottom of the list).
Alt-Tab out of the game when it hangs and make sure your firewall is not blocking the game. My firewall was throwing up confirmation dialogs behind the start screen that DD was not allowing to show. Alt-tabbing out, I could see them. (I use Comodo but others may do the same)
Might disconnect from the internet, disable both your AV and Firewall since either could be blocking the game. If it runs, enable one at a time to see which is blocking the game. Enable both prior to connecting to the internet.
I would start working my way thru the compatibility modes, change, try the game, change, etc.
Yeah, it's a great game, on my second play thru . . . =)
Edit: you might also try starting the game at different screen resolutions using the ConfigTool.exe which is located in the DD directroy. See attached image.
Depending on the res you are running, you may need to set it manually in the config.div which is also located in the DD directory. Use Notepad to open the file and enter your screen res if it is not a standard resolution found in the ConfigTool.exe.
Anything over 1280 x 1024 was just too small for me . . . =)
If you made a system restore prior to the first install, you could revert to that state as well.

Unfortunately the registry clean didn't work.
I hadn't made a system restore but I luckily had one from a recent windows update. After completing the system restore I was able to reinstall and play the game! Thank you Thank you Thank you for spending this time with me today! I wish I could buy you a coffee (or beverage of your choice). If it isn't too much trouble I wanted to ask about the reason I think it went glitchy in the first place: for some reason I'm unable to create hot keys. Can you hotkey straight from your inventory or only other screens? (I know this doesn't exactly belong here, as the real problem is solved). Thank you again!
Also thank you for the heads up about the config file. I don't like it wihen the resolution is too high. As it was the keys in the game were about 3 pixels across. XD
Edit: Answered my own question. Have to make hotkeys from the different tabs.. skills, potions, etc. :)

You're welcome . . . That's great ! Win 7 can be tricky . . . =)
On the UI (bottom of the game screen), you would click on the Browse Potions button (top, far right) and move the mouse pointer over the potion you want to link. While over the potion, press the F key you want linked to the potion.
Do the same for your skills (second from right, top row), open the skills and move the pointer over the skill you want to link and press the F key you would like to use.
This is really handy for magic, I left click for my weapon and have lightening as my magic skill. Lert click for sword close up, right click for lightening ranged weapon. Some times lightening is not the best magic so I have Freeze linked to my F3 key. I always use the same weapon but I can switch magic using my F2 (lightening) and F3 (Freeze).
Good luck and enjoy the game !
Edit: you can assign F1 thru F12 as described above, you can also assign twelve more hot keys by doing the same and pressing CTRL and a F key for a total of 24 linked key combos . . . I can't remember that many . . . =)
