I was in the middle of posting a problem about how I had tried everything and couldn't figure out how to get this game to run, but when I was generating my dxdiag I recognized the option to disable Direct3D Acceleration. I had to do this to get another game to run in the past, so on a whim I tried it. BAM! DivDiv works great now (well, as good as DivDiv ever works :p).

For those who would like to try this, do the following:
1) Start -> Run
2) Type 'dxdiag' and hit enter
3) Once it finishes checking your system (bottom left progress bar) click the tab labelled 'Display', and the in the bottom left click the button to disable Direct3D Acceleration.

Hopefully this helps some other people play this great classic!
Did you try running the configuration program first? At least one person mentioned having a problem starting the game until they manually ran the config tool (it should go with a default resolution if you start the game first).

If Direct3D is the issue, you can use the config tool program from the disk version of the game to get the download version to run in software or Direct Draw mode, rather than Direct3D. There is a download link in the topic below.

A few posts up in that topic there is a description of how to manually set the game resolution, if the old config tool changes it.

I appreciate the feedback! This actually helped with another problem that popped up subsequently, which was unplayable low framerate. I re-enabled D3D, then used the old config tool to switch to software mode. Works perfectly now!
