I didn't see this one on the list (just the EE), does GoG sell "Original Sin"? I didn't check and bought it on Amazon (I think) and was disgusted to learn that it required "Steam". Finally got the "Steam" software loaded and tried to play and it says something to the affect of, will load in 3days 57minutes :) after hitting "play". I'd buy the GoG version if it were not too expensive but I'm not paying $39 for an enhanced edition (whatever that is).

Not directly, but if you buy the EE there is a link in the library entry to contact GOG support to get the original release added to your library.

Depending on when the DVD was produced it may require a large or small update before you can play. If your connection in general isn't slow, maybe try later in case your IPS is having issues or restricting some traffic.

In the client, in the Steam menu select Settings, then Downloads, and try changing your Download Region.

Try logging out of Steam, exit the client, reboot, start Steam again, log in, and see if that helps.

The Enhanced Edition added:
- fully voiced dialogue
- some balancing changes to the skill system, dual wielding, wands and grenades
- a rewritten ending, small epilogue area and some additions and changes to quests and dialogue throughout the game
- graphical improvements and engine optimizations (it is 64 bit, rather than 32 for the original release, and in Windows uses DirectX 11 rather than 9c)
- controller support, local (dynamic) split screen co-op (when using 2 controllers)
- lots more

Thanks. I took a hard line with EE because I already spent quite a bit on the game and still have no idea of how much I'll like it. I bought it originally because it was on a list of best ever RPGs but I really know little about it.

My I-net connection is not very fast - I live in a remote area which is cableless so I use Hughesnet satellite. However, generally, I have no trouble downloading games as long as I do it between 2:00 AM and about 6:00 AM (PST).

I assume the DVD was produced in 2014 as that is the copyright date and it was purchased in May 2015. I just wished that I had checked here first - likely would have just bought the EE and I'd be a lot happier right now (providing GoG was actually selling it in May 2015). I'm not sure how I would apply an upgrade when I can't even get it to install completely (it's not listed in "all programs" or "program files (86)" - yes, I still have Win7 :) . I will try again tonight if I'm still awake at 0200 hr.

The GOG release may have been better in that case, since the full installers are broken into 3 or 4 pieces (4GB max). The total download time might not be much different, though.

There were several large patches after the game was released. The North American retail released was the last region (initially there wasn't going to be one, and Amazon and a couple other places imported a bunch from the UK), but there was still a patch or two after that, IIRC. Presumably each production run would have used the most up to date version at the time.

GOG had D:OS available at release for Kickstarter backers, and shortly after that for everyone. The EE was released at the end of October in 2015.

The update is installed automatically as part of the initial installation.

Both the Classic release and the Enhanced Edition of the game should be listed in your Steam library. If you start it before you go to bed, you should just be able to leave it, and the speed should pick up between 2 and 6am.

OK, the second try went a lot smoother and, yes, EE is listed in my steam account. One last question, if I may, how do I know if the latest patch has been applied?

OK, I may have been too hard on myself - probably did check GoG but then went to Amazon when I found I couldn't get it at GoG. Well, bottom line is that things seem to be working - now I have to decide whether to play the classic or the improved EE.

Again thanks; pretty rare for a developer to help in a case like this and I do appreciate it.

It should be automatic; if there is an update Steam will download it when you try to start the game, if it wasn't downloaded in the background.
The game version is listed in the main menu, below the column of buttons (or in the EE when using a controller, in the top right of the screen); the latest for D:OS Classic is 1.0.252.0, while for the EE it is 2.0.119.430
