When installing on Win 7 you might need to do some special steps.
Look at this post for my suggestions on installing DD on Win 7.
I recommend that you do not use quick save with any version of DD. I got corrupted saves when using quick save so I started using just the S key for saves. It pauses the game, allows a save and has not corrupted my saves ever with ver 1.005A.
This is my recommendation for all version of DD but especially the version you are running. If you look on the bottom right corner of the start screen you will see your game version. Since you are using a disk it is probably ver 1.34 (1.0034). This version had many,
many bugs. When DD was first released on GOG it was this version IIRC. It was unplayable mostly due to the added resolution support. Larian Studios made a patch for the game that fixed almost all the bugs in DD. GOG re-released the V1.005A game. It still corrupted saves when using the quick save feature ( for myself and others) but seems to have fixed corrupted saves with the S key. It is the best version released to date.
My best suggestion would be to buy the V1.005A game from GOG (or another distributor) as it plays much better than the old V1.0034 version. For $5.99 you get a better game, a digital backup, new resolution support and the latest patch.
If you prefer to use the disk version, make sure you follow the install steps linked to above and don't use the quick save (CTRL-S) but rather the S key alone. You may still get some corruption with the 1.0034 regardless of how you save.
Edit: Installing with UAC "on" and in the "Program Files" directory can cause problems with saves as the games disk read/writes can be blocked. Backup your saves before doing a re-install. Also, the CD disk version saves are NOT compatible with the V1.005A game so . . . you might not want to get the new version if you are well into the game.
