Well that did not last long I started a game came upstairs to where there is a book shelf, chose the top shelf where there was a manuscript to take, clicked on it to take it and crash game froze.

Edit: Re loaded and it was OK this time, but then the manuscript was not on the shelf this time, I assume the game places objects randomly, seems it was a random crash also.

There are some books and manuscripts that are consistent (like the eastern room in Joram's house there is always a book on Rivellon in one of the bookcases or shelves), but many are random. There is even a small chance to get a random mage spell book from bookcases.
