So it turns out that, if you have Magic Barrier (passive) on a piece of equipment.. ( i have mine on my dragon belt) .. every time you quickload a quicksave you gain +5 resists...

Now i have the skill maxed out but if that was bugged in a similar manner then i would be gettng +30 resists per reload...

Granted... i did a lot of reloading to juggle some really badly rolled items... lets just say, that talking tree in the Dark Forest couldn't even land a nuke on me....

Currently ... Level 50

Lightning - 720
Fire - 710
Poison - 800
Spirit - 715

o_O

By the numbers with no modifier i should be like

75
65
155
70

unbuffed (with MB 5 and 1 worn = 30)

IIRC un-equipping and re-equipping something with a Magic Barrier bonus can cause problems, as well, if you do not already know the skill.
In this case it may be a problem having the skill maxed as well as the bonus level. You could use iZakaroN's SaveEditor (or from Kiya's site, with description) to unlearn a level or two of Magic Barrier. A couple people with the disk version found they were fine if the skill and bonus levels didn't add up to more than 5, though IIRC one person said they needed to stay under 5.

If this happens too often your resistances can eventually become negative. They can be reset by hex editing a file in the save folder (Some more hex offsets...), or if they become a little bit negative, can be boosted by learning Magic Barrier, saving, using the save editor to unlearn the skill, reloading and repeating as necessary.

DAD's item editor can be used to remove the Magic Barrier bonus from the item, but there may be problems getting it running in Vista/7 (required visual basic runtime libraries may not be installed or included with Windows). The slightly less featured Divine Divinity Item Editor could be used to re-create an equivalent piece of equipment (from a crappy item of the same type), minus the skill bonus. There is no bonus for wearing the full dragon armour set, except for completing the associated quest when you equip everything the first time, and having Bless cast on you (temporary effect).

Did you open the quest log or main map, switch to the traits section and read the description for lightning resistance? The description changes to the best version once it gets over 100 (or somewhere around there).

I didn't have much problem with poison or elemental damage once my resistances got up around 100, so having them higher probably doesn't make much of a difference. In the wastelands on level 51, or so, I got frozen repeatedly in the middle of a group of 5 dragon riders, was only able to attack briefly before getting re-frozen, and barely took any damage.
I wonder if it all started with having to get undressed to see the Dwarf King haha.. I didn't have magic barrier maxed for a long time (it maxes at like ... 40?) and these babies were already flying... but yeah seems like the definition hasn't changed indeed.because if they did they'd probably call me a stud muffin.

I'll check out the editor if it ends up negatively ... so far they've gone safely over 1000 and i'm thinking of just replaying with a survivor to test something else hehe. So far dodged many bad bugs just the occasional crash from reloading so often (go away frost weapon! you're cheating!)
Your equipment gets removed visiting the dwarven king (unless you kill or bypass the guards), entering Iona's dungeon and for the boxing match in the cellar of the Blue Boar inn, so of the people who ran into this bug, those are common triggers.

I was referring to the content of the description for lightning resistance, rather than the fact it hadn't changed.
