I am playing the game under the gog patch 100.5A and i noticed a glitch under one of the skills. I am playing a character and want to use spear mastery. However instead of it being passive (like it was meant to be), it is active. Not only that, i right click it and it doesnt work. Can someone please tell me which patch to download to fix this and the other minor glitches. I would really like to know as i want to make a spear using character.

On another note, does anyone know what button to use to make it so you attack but dont move like shift in d2. I want to use my spears reach to full extent and need to know which button works.

The 1.005A version is the newest version of the game so you can't patch it unless Larian releases another one. There are still a few bugs but not nearly as many as the 1.0034 version (which displays as 1.34 I believe)

The CTRL key works like the the shift key in Diablo (when using a ranged weapon). Try holding the CTRL key and left clicking an enemy, you should throw the spear if you have added some points to the skill. Same for the bow etc, you will stand still while CTRL is pressed.

Remember that with swords, axes, maces, etc pressing the CTRL key causes your character to attack the nearest enemy. Works great when a row of enemies come at you, holding CTRL you will attack the nearest and automatically go to the next and the next (if you kill each one that is). Just remember when you hold the CTRL key you can't run away and you can't drink potions. Took me a while to realize that, kept drinking potions and trying to run away till I was killed, all the time unaware that I had the CTRL key pressed . . . =)

Thats the problem though, spear mastery wont count as a passive. Do you know how to fix that? It has to be gog's version that is causing this. What will happen if i put 1.34 on?

Patching down to version 1.34 would be a disaster. DD was first released at that version on GOG (might have been a version above) and it was a mess.

Larian Studios made the 1.005A patch for the GOG release and later other digital releases. If you think 1.005A is buggy you really don't want to try 1.34 (1.0034) which had more bugs than I could count and DID NOT support higher resolutions.

I tried the spear when I first started DD and found it less effective than any other weapon. I didn't consider it to be a bug at the time just a less effective weapon so . . . I used zero recoup time swords until I found the Singing Blade / Sword of Chaos about mid-way thru and used one or the other for the rest of the game. I will try to get around to using a spear just to satisfy my curiosity if nothing else . . . =)

Maybe another user that prefers spears will leave some tips ???

Thats what sucks though. I like few weapons in rpgs, daggers are one and spears are another. I like them because in real life they require finesse. Instead of just brute force which is everything else. Spears work well, i just want the passive bonus to work.

Spear skill works as it should ttbomk.

The spear skills is passive, however as an active skill it works as a thrown weapon. That is, select the skill, then right click on an enemy to throw the spear. Don't worry, it will reappear in your hand instantly. Spears are some of the best weapons in the game due to this as the ranged damage is quite insane.

Note that this works only with spears, not staves or polearms (like halberds).

I really didn't give it a chance as the first usage yielded poor results for me. Sounds like I may have missed out.

Thanks guys for the tips. Seems like i installed it without administrative properties. Great game. The music makes me feel like i am in asia and honestly is some of the best game music i have ever heard. Thats hard for me to say too with heavy hitters like icewind dale 2.

Yea the music is f*ckin epic in DD as well as that of Icewind Dale II.

I have to admitt that i play sword + magic mainly. As a ranged weapon i use boomerang( or smth like this) skill. You can get a free upgrade from the warriors guild master after completing second quest i believe.
I have never used spears (thats the continuation of the inside thread concerning spear)
