Hiya. Last night I explored Verdistis and did the sub-quests, including the "Tom" quests. I chose Lockpick, and went on my merry way. I have two pieces of equipment that give me lockpick as well, so the skill was at three.

After that, I went down to the Dark Cave to save the boy, but after I fought the vampire, noticed I only had two poimts instead of the three. If I take off the equipment, it shows I have 1 skill, and when I put the equioment back on, it shows I have three. but as soon as I reload, it goes back to two. Any ideas?

Sorry if that was a little long-winded.

Maybe... Saving the boy results in a loss of 1-4 random stat points (most commonly 3). If you were just at the stat requirements for one of the pieces of equipment with the Lockpick bonus, it is possible that when loading the save you need the bonus on another piece of equipment to equip one with a Lockpick bonus, so it doesn't get registered properly until you manually un-equip / re-equip.

BTW, you can get another level of Lockpick in the thieves guild, by loosing a challenge / bet.

Good thought, but it's not that. The Ars Magicana shopkeeper now only sells booze/food as well. I tried to install IE11 last night, but didn't like it so I did a system restore to right before the download, and then this all started happening. I must have corruoted a file somewhere.

I did try your idea, after the vampire, he knocked my strength down to 74, from 75. My armor is one of the pieces with the bonus, required strength of 65. The Amulet of Glory is the other, so in theory I should meet the requirements. By sheer luck, I just gained a level after killing the vampire, so I had some stat points to use. I added one to strength putting it back to where it was before this "issue", and it seems to work? I don't know what it's beef is, but now I hope the shopkeep goes back to selling the good stuff...lol

Which shopkeeper? Kistandalius the mage, or Blake?

Their inventories should reset after about 15 minutes real time (though they can hold on to things you traded to them, which stay at the top of the list).

You can try starting a new game, save and then use iZakaroN's SaveEditor to give your character some large stat boosts and experience. The stat boosts would be in effect once you reloaded the save, but you'd need to get some experience (ie opening the catacombs) in order to level up. That would make it relatively easy to run to Ars Magicana and check the merchant.

If the merchant is fine in a new game, then the issue is likely in your current save, which hopefully time or trading with will fix. If the problem also exists in a new game, then the game file are likely the problem, and a clean re-install of the game may help (backup your saves, just in case, un-install, reboot, check that nothing remains in the install folder besides the savegames folder, shut down all non-essential programs, such as anti-virus, then re-install the game).

Alternately, if you zip your latest save and email it to me (raze@larian.com), I can try it here.

That;s exactly what I did, I bought all the cheap booze/food and let his wares reset.

I would like the thank you for your timely responses and overall exquisite advice. I truelly appreciate it, and I'm sure others who play this game do as well. This is actually my third time, never beat it though. I bought the disc version on the 'cheapie' rack at Wal-Mart years ago (along with other good games as well, actually. Fallout1/2, Blitzkrieg, Sacred Gold, Septerra Core Planescape:Torment, etc. Started it, but at that time the 3d games won out. Then I tried again later, lost my play disc somewhere. So when I saw it on GOG, I had to get it. Great game, for the 'cheapie' rack...lol
