Hello. Based on the Larian kickstarter message that I just got, the Mac and Linux versions got bumped on the priority list by a MONTH in order to get the PC version and the XBONE and PS4 versions out. Clearly getting those brand-new dollars from the console sales trumped the Mac/Linux new customers and those who kickstarted the game originally. Second class cititzens, always.

They have asked for help with a "Thunderclap" campaign. I have suggested I will thunderclap 4-5 weeks after the date/time they are requesting, as that seems fair. The video explains that it will definitely be out in 4-5 weeks, but definitely by the end of the year, barring some horrible disaster.

I am sure some will comment that this is just another small person on the internet, and I am. It's true. But Larian trying to ask customers to build goodwill and at the same time telling those customers "but not all of you are worth the same to us" really sucks. Ask yourself this: if it's ok to put the EE on the back burner for Mac/Linux now, what's to keep them from doing the same when they have the same unspecified "issues" with D:OS 2, which I funded in good faith that they would keep the same feature/release date parity they had upheld so far.

Maybe they won't care if we don't take part. Clearly, the Mac/Linux audience isn't big enough to worry about anyway.

I'll take the same approach to supporting their social media campaign... barring some horrible disaster. Like, perhaps, a nuclear event driving mankind into vaults and then having to fight for its survival upon returning to the surfact. If that were to happen, I'd probably just be too busy to get to it in that case. Plus there's some tombs to raid. Oh, and those darn Spartans are getting into a scuffle again. Lots to do! Always something!

The Desert Rangers managed to get on console without leaving the Mac version of their "enhanced edition" in the Wasteland.

Just sayin'. We need to appreciate those who don't put our platform on the back burner as a "get to it when they can" project. I'm betting the PC and console versions will get 2 bug fix releases before the other platforms see any release at all.

Don't be OK with second class.

I attempted to include the kickstarter post link but could not due to forum policies. My apologies but it is easy enough to find on their Kickstarter site as an update.

Oh come on, everyone has their own preferences no need to be derisive of others.

Has nothing to do with derisive. If you don't want to game on Windows you should become accustomed to late D3d-to-OpenGL game ports (five weeks is nothing--sometimes the delay is years and often the game never arrives at all.) It goes with the territory. Folks can bitch all they like about it--it's not going to change. Instead of complaining, they should be praising Larian for doing Linux/Mac ports at all. Yep, you relegate yourself to second-class status if you chose not to game on Windows--again, it has nothing to do with being derisive. It's merely pointing out the obvious. Like it or not, no one is doing AAA games exclusively for Linux/Mac that are being ported to Windows as an afterthought. The drivers are inferior, the choices of hardware far more restrictive, and the games, besides being far fewer in number, are, for those reasons and more, often simply not as good. Certainly, gaming on Linux/Mac is never "better." Which makes one's choice of OS X/Linux for gaming all the more curious and inexplicable. Bootcamp is a standard feature of OS X, and Linux users are certainly capable of dual booting.

Firstly, I game on Windows as well but I think that Linux people paid the same money that I did and are not wrong in wanting linux support, especially when it was promised before, if that's not the case here then I have no sympathy for them but still I wouldn't mock them, which I though was the point of the post I replied to.
I bought this game when I heard the update would have Linux support. Now it's finally here and there's a delay. Pretty dissapointed to be honest. And changing the game art becomes prudes who don't even buy games complained was weak.

Losing respect, here.
It is the same thing that always happens. A dev promises a Linux/Mac version, because it sounds reasonable enough. Then they realize that they are not experienced Linux developers, and there just isn't support for the kind of programming modern games utilize when working in Linux.

While I am not a Linux gamer myself, were I one, I would not trust a port to come out on time unless the devs have clear experience with Linux ports beforehand. It is basically these devs being like "I know Spanish, so it shouldn't be too hard to translate this into French. They are both Latin derived, right?", except devs keep falling into this trap because everyone keeps assuming that programming is programming is programming, and environment doesn't matter. The results seem to indicate quite the opposite, given no shortage of delayed, poorly optimized, or cancelled Linux ports. Maybe if the Steam Box takes off, some first party Linux developers might actually show up, or at least competent porting studios people can subcontract.
I will give Larian money when the Mac version is available, not a second earlier. If I can't play the game on my platform of choice, I'm not supporting it.
I might be more lenient if they would not keep promising cross platform versions, but they have a record of promising that and failing to deliver. This is why I haven't backed the next Divinity Kickstarter either.

And to the person who posted something that basically amounts to "just install Windows": I use my computers for more productive things. I will not disrupt my work environment with a reboot, especially when I have a ton of other titles to play.
