Does anyone know if the game saves will be cross-OS compatible? Let's say that I start playing on Windows but I then I wish to continue playing on the (disappointingly delayed) Linux version. Would that pose a problem?

Yes, they should be. With D:OS they can be transferred between Windows and Mac.
