Anyone else encountered this? You talk to an NPC, open the barter dialog, and find that a bunch of the magical goods (armor and weapons) in his / her stock are unidentified.

I've been starting interaction using my character who has a Lore skill of 3 (base 2 and +1 from gear), who also carries a magnifying glass, and find that even Level 2 stuff in the vendor's inventory is unidentified. Just for grins I also tried my Barter guy (1 + 1) and still found the stuff unidentified. One notable difference is that when using my barter guy, the item description was in red, and when I used my Lore babe, it was instead shown in grey, like the Lore requirement had been met.

I've tried:

- equipping the magnifying glass before starting the conversation (doesn't equip)
- using the barter window Identify feature (the ID icon goes red)
- tried dragging the item to the Identify button.
- tried right-clicking the items (no dialog appears)
- within the barter window, tried right-clicking my magnifying glass (no dialog appears)
- tried drag-and-drop both directions with my magnifying glass, both putting the item in the trade area and leaving it in his inventory panel.

Oh, the most recent notable example is <early-game mini-spoiler> talking with Bjorn, after rescuing his group and after he sets up shop in Silverglen. <end mini-spoiler> I've done some running around between his time of rescue and me trying to trade with him, going into the Luculla Mine and also back to Cyseal, thinking the area load cycle would cause a reset to his inventory marker. No go. It has also occurred with another NPC, though i don't recall which one. In the case of Bjorn, with a 100% Attitude he says we're the cat's meow.

What am I doing wrong? It would be a bit odd for a vendor's goods to be unidentifiable before you purchase them, and I've been equipping for quite a while now items that required Level 2 Identify skill (not to be confused with the level of the item itself) and that were acquired elsewhere.

Thanks for your help.
Very annoying that is. Reminded me of Diablo's gambling merchant.
I doubt a merchant's items were meant to be unidentified and I figured this is a bug waiting to get fixed.
You're not doing anything wrong, this is definitely a bug, or if it's not it has to be one of the most stupid design decisions in the entire game. Nobody is going to pay exorbitant prices for an item whose properties are unknown. It needs fixing, and fast.
Crud - I was hoping it was a screw-up on my end since that can be corrected immediately.
It can be annoying, but it can be used to make money too.

At level 16, a merchant sold epic items for 2400g and after identifiing them they were worth 10000g.
An unidentified item cost as much as a standart item ( for example a level 16 sword without magic effects).

But I don´t need this "bug". I have over 250k gold and sometimes my problem is that the merchants have not enough money to buy all of my loot. I have to re visit several towns after each dungeon. Of course I grab everything I can get without loosing reputation. I´m a hero and not a thief.
There is a little feature using the F5 and F8 keys:
F5 = Quicksave and F8 = reload.

They work wonders if/when you want to find something out.
