It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).

epain: Just tried that, same issues.
I'm using PlayOnLinux with wine version 1.7.21, and making 32bit virtual drives whenever I try to install the game.

shmerl: And what about hardware / GPU driver? It looks like it worked at least in one case for Nvidia.
I'm using Linux Mint 17 Cinnamon 64bit with an Nvidia GTX 670 with the closed 337.25 drivers
Driver independent problem then. Have you tried another desktop environment, if you have it installed? (you're also using gnome 3).
Game seems to be using threads on startup, it's cpu use is aprox 106% here. I also tried setting process affinity with taskset -c 0 wine EotC, didn't change anything.

Could the guy that is affected by the same bug confirm it on this page:
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=36854

you'll need a winehq login.

shmerl: ...It's unusual for GOG games to pack all those redistributables though. Why did they suddenly do it here? At the very least, the installer had to make them optional.
Especially since .NET isn't needed for the game itself. It is possible to stop GOG's installers from running such addons with the right security software but it shouldn't be necessary - customers should be able to de-select them as options.
Ok more or less good news. I managed to run it semi-reliably by patching to the latest version and using a patched version of wine with the WGL_WINE patchset by Ken Thomases
http://www.codeweavers.com/xfer/ken/wgl_wine_surface/
password is 'wgl_wine_surface'
I applied all the patches sequentially (including the ones outside the tar), one of those in the tar didn't apply but it didn't matter since it was just a refactoring and didn't affect the rest.

and winetricks d3dx9_36 vcrun2008 on a cleaned (after installation moved the game outside and deleted the prefix) prefix. Lets see if it gets fixed on main wine. These patches are not getting merged so soon probably because they make a second wine window to deal with the incompatibilities noted. If you're curious, read this thread:
http://web.archiveorange.com/archive/v/ElNRYdmLn3451k3NFv8x

edit: it still fails very often, it's a damn race condition. In fact, i haven't managed to make it work again after running twice in a row argghh

Thanks for the update!
Read the update. Basically it worked twice and stopped working again. Maybe it was the reconfiguration that did it in the second time. But deleting it again didn't fix anything
New developments: i can reliably access the menu if i change the keymap to (US).

So the bug is probably in the treatment of text leading to a infinite cycle or deadlock. Probably from the xml parser or something dumb.
If a Linux version of Divinity: Original Sin appears on GOG, I am buying it immediately, getting mad with joy, sharing my excitement with my friends, etc.

If not, then no. This game seems to be really great, but I am not going to mess with Windows purchasing and installation / maintenance hassle, or with endless Wine hacking, for it.

If you also feel this way and have the same plans, please post them as well, maybe more such voices will influence things...

shmerl: Did anyone run it successfully?

epain: No, with virtual desktop enabled I get a D:OS mouse cursor, but nothing else loads.
This is with the latest version of wine via PlayonLinux on a 32bit virtual drive.
Tried installing .NET 3.5, vcrun 2008 and some d3d DLL's but no results.

Have tried installing the very first version available on GOG, but also the very latest, with or without patch, with or without DLC, it won't run at all as far as I could see.

Linux client available here on GOG would seriously make my day... or week ;-)

A Linux version of the game is confirmed already, and much of the work needed for it has been done for the Mac version. No ETA has been given, though.
I decided I won't buy it until the Linux version will be released. Just to make a point.

I've already "bought" it via the Kickstarter campaign, but I'm not playing it until the native Linux version, especially since it refuses to work properly in Wine.
Do the new patches bring any changes to the Wine playability?
I already told you, if you had read my last post: it works on wine if you change your keycode (in gnome that thing with the country code in the top right) to en(US) if you have a 'foreign' one.

Also, winetricks d3dx9_36 vcrun2008
but that goes without saying.

Just as a aside, the last patch mentioned they fixed a keycode/charset problem on the loading, but it didn't fix this, it still requires this workaround.

I can't install divinity, cause the installer wants to instell the net Framework, which doesn't work. I've read that the game doesn't need the framework. Can I stop the installer from requiring the framework?
