I have a black screen problem in Divinity 2. I already know that there is a problem with high resolution settings but I played Devinity without any problem until the elevator sceen in the battle tower when I have to face Laiken. I still can hear his voice and I have the talk opportunities but the rest is black. After that I can see my compass and my settings on the bottom the rest is still black.

I already tried all different resolution settings but nothing changed.

Has anybody a solution for that? Why do I have this black screen problem at this point in the game and not earlier?

Thanks a lot to all the ones who'll reply!
Are there any opponents shown on the compass? Are you attacked after the conversation?

There should be a cutscene after you enter the elevator where the camera pans through the throne room to show Laiken on the throne, and then the conversation starts, after which Ba'al and a bunch of undead attack you up close, while Laiken uses magic from a distance.

If you load the save in the Developer Mode version of the game, can you open the cheat window and teleport to Laiken or Ba'al after the conversation? That might force the display to reset, if there was just a problem with the cutscene.

Try unchecking the graphics option to use the desktop resolution for the UI.

Black screen in game

One person with a crash moving from Farglow to Broken Valley avoided the problem by temporarily switching to window mode (Solution to crash (black screen) on XP).
To see if this will make a difference with the Laiken cutscene (assuming there were no changes made to this unsupported feature in the Developer's Cut version of the game), open the graphicoptions.xml file in a text editor, and in the line Fullscreen="1" change the 1 to a zero, save and restart the game.

In XP this file is in the folder
C:\Documents and Settings\ %username% \Local Settings\Application Data\Divinity 2\Profile

or in Vista / Win 7

C:\Users\ %username% \AppData\Local\Divinity 2\Profile

You may need to set Windows Explorer to show hidden files and folders (XP, Vista, Win 7).
