The game "Starts", Graphics go crazy( Sharp pointed polygon style) the game tab Spams open, then closed, then it crashes. Any Ideas how to resolve this?

I haven't got the game installed, so going on my shaky memory, but when you run the config tool did you select software mode or Direct3d ? I seem to remember it made a huge difference on some systems.
There is also an older version of the config tool and choosing DirectDraw instead of Direct 3D
