Just bought DD from GOG.Been playing for a week and have completed quests to solve cause of plague in Poor Town and destroy Orc supply caravan. Still unable to gain entry into Stormfist Castle. Tried to talk to Commander Ralph at town watch, but he is never there. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, TedJ

Never there, or never in the front room? If you enter his private room in the Rivertown Watch building he kicks you out and can later lock himself in. If you unlock the door (Lockpick level 3) and open it, he should eventually come out.

Once you talk to Commander Ralph, he has another quest that could get you invited to the castle. If you haven't done so, you might want to clear the Rivertown sewers before entering the castle; I did that as well as the majority of the first map and Verdistis.
