Hey guys,
I am suffering from one of these game crashes everytime I am nearly killing Demona (or what her name is) in Aleroth.
Did someone solve this or had the same problems? Do I have to kill her to free Mardaneus? I cannot really get away from her, as she is pretty fast. Don't know what to do.
Best wishes!

One work around that helped me to recruit Mardaneus for the Council of Seven is a resolution change. After killing the Orc raiding party I was confronted by Demona. A few words and she instantly approaches and strikes one blow which causes a CTD, every time for me.

Going to lower resolutions made the crash happen quicker since I had approached much closer in order to see her. Changing to 1280 x 1024 res, she saw me from a greater distance, made her speech, and approached as usual but taking much longer to reach me.

Because of the extra distance I had time to use a freeze skill on her before she actually reached my character. After freezing her I hacked away, hacking and freezing, she finally made her taunting speech and left which allowed me to recruit Mardaneus. Might work for others as well.

Edit: You are not supposed to kill her yet so . . . the speech and leaving is normal. Also, make sure you have killed all of the orcs before approaching Demona since you need to focus all your efforts on her.

Freezing her was the only way I was able to get around this crash, and I was able to do it in 1024X768, you just have to be ready to hit her with quickly.
Good luck, and hopefully that patch shows up soon so we won't have to resort to these little work-arounds.
