I've read that saves can become corrupted but thought I'd be okay as I save regularly to different slots.

Tried to play today but no matter which save I use, if i activate the pyramid, I either just disappear or I transport to my homebase but everything is black except the minimap. Any suggestions please ?

Always try the obvious first: reboot your computer. It may be a graphical issue, and not a save game issue.

Check if you have your Caps Lock key enabled. That, or holding down the Shift key, enables you to move the screen focus away from your character (to see or toss stuff farther), but can result in focus not following your character when teleporting (or using stairs, entering caves, etc).
