How on god's green earth do you defeat "Josephina"..... nothing works at all, she's seemingly invulnerable to absolutely everything, fire, lightning, poison, freezing, all other magical effects (eg polymorph) and both ranged and melee physical damage..... that's when you can even get near her in the microsecond gaps between the infinite number of dreadknights she summons - and covering the entire floor with hellspikes so you can barely even move without insta-death!

I can find two out of the three elven artifacts without fighting her..... they are lying on the floor just behind her. Use a shadow potion, grab 'em, use a second shadow, then run..... but where's the third?

Josephina has it doesn't she? Great that, seeing as she's impossible and all!

Maybe Raze had better put up trustable links to the save / item editors he's mentioned previously, seeing as there are no cheat codes for DD. I think armour that gives +10,000,000,000 HPs is in order. Funny how the games that need them most never have cheat codes built in.

You don't need cheats. She's easily beaten.

All you need to do is get beside her as soon as possible after her prattling, then beat on her with melee attacks. The point is to interrupt her spell casting. It really is that simple.
The Survivor's Curse spell can be quickly cast repeatedly on a target to significantly reduce their resistances, so even just level 1 can be very effective (unlike the mage's Whithering Curse, it can not be resisted).

Warriors just need to get close and start whacking; the passive Stun skill helps interrupt her summoning and spell casting and Aura of Guarding would help getting over the Hell Spikes (or use a shadow potion).

A higher level, better armour and/or more restoration potions should help.

Limited on my options there too.....
It's taking a long time now for each next level to come along..... and most of the wildness areas are now cleared of XP making monster fodder.
I haven't got either the "Withering Curse", "Survivor's Curse", "Stun", nor "Aura of Guarding" skills! But I do have a few weapons imbued with "Stun". So I'll try those. I'll resist the cheats to the very last!

And "Jospehina" is considered by some to be the game's hardest NPC? A bit odd considering she's just a mid-ranking Black Ring expendable. You'd think this would be left to the end boss! Mind you, I've found NPC strengths somewhat unbalanced throughout the entire game myself, you can either mow down 100's of them without even losing 1 HP, or end up having to spam 30 restoration potions in a toe-to-toe brawl, against some lone yoyo with 10,000HP! :)

PS/ I'm finding the game seems to be "closing down" on me, by that I mean I'm getting to a point where I just can't make further progress.....
1) "Dol Prynden"..... or whatever it's called..... the cavern that's supposed to be accessed from the Dwarven Halls. Can't find any way of getting in there, the gold river seems to totally block off all access. How do I get in?
2) There's lots of unexplored areas in the Dark Forest map I cannot get to due to impassable terrain like swamps, cliffs etc - is this intentional? The Rivertown map was 100% revealable in contrast.
3) Mardaneus won't unlock his door and come out.... even though I've cleared out all the orcs invading Aleroth. Another problem? Or am I meant to do something else as well?

Edit - well, trying the non-cheating advice has not even gotten me 0.00001% toward beating her!
Looks like's there's no option left....
That save editor just redistributes skill and attribute points..... it's not really a *cheat* util is it now?
That item editor does not even work at all. It crashes at "loading items blah blah blah 83%"
In the end I had to download and use Cheat Engine, luckily I was able to give myself infinite HPs with that - it still took quarter an hour to whittle Josephina down though, and over a dozen restortation potions to keep my SPs up!

I'm still stuck trying to get Mardaenus to come out of hiding.....

There's a entire topic of suggestions, including things like shadow potions you can buy.

Mage spell books can be bought and merchant inventories restock every 10-15 minutes real time, depending on the NPC. Kistandalius or Blake in Ars Magicana and Corinna or Mpenzak in Verdistis tend to be good NPCs to check, and if you quicksave before talking to or mousing over them, you can quickload a few times looking for spell books or equipment upgrades, etc.

Burning Wall can be extremely effective with good timing and coordination, and even without can do a fair amount of damage and/or slow or stop opponents following you.

There are pairs of teleporter pads throughout the Dwarven Halls. Walking around the outside edge, past the throne room, and down the western side should bring you to the entrance to the mine, though (when you hit the river, go west).

There are areas in the Dark Forest you can not get to (normally). In testing it was decided the area was too large, so the south east corner was cut off by a river, and you can not get into the swaps or some of the raised plateaus.

Check Lanalor's house, where Iona came from, for the key; it should be pretty much straight into the house sitting on a cupboard or shelf.

There is a button in the save editor to switch between redistributing points to just changing things directly, mentioned in the instructions on the webpage.

Corinna is toast. She mussed up her demon summoning and it fried her up a treat! :D So she's out as a supply of spellbooks! I've not seen Mpenzak have any yet.... I've had more success finding them in the inventories of minor characters, like guards etc, they somethimes have very high value items - like charms and spell books - and will sell them!

Yes, burning wall is damn good! Even at Lvl 2 it's impressive!

Thanks to that site you pointed me to I got the Dwarven caves area done! I found a map that was misleading, one that was making it look like you had to cross the river..... when you didn't!

Who decided the area was *too* large? You can *never* have too much scenery! Boy, some of you ex-collegues on DD had some damned odd design ideas!!!!!

Lanalors house? Thanks Raze. That I would *never* have thought of in a million!

Good job I kept the editor..... I'll try it again.....

JMayer70: Corinna is toast.
She can be brought back to trade with: Reviving dead NPCs.

If there is enough content an area can not be too large (within reason), but the main complaints about the beginning and ending of the game are too much hack and slash. Apparently in playtesting it either felt too empty or too long.
