I read quite a bit about the newer versions of the game (beyond 1.34) and noticed the comments about the music only playing a couple of the songs rather than all of them. So for grins I installed my old CD version of the game. I know there are the old bugs with overpowered traps, True Shot doesn't work, etc. But I really noticed the music changing in different areas. I had gotten so used to hearing the same old songs and now in the 1.34 version the changing music is really beautiful. I miss the high resolution, but absolutely love the "new" music.

It really does make all the difference, doesn't it? :) You can still use higher resolutions with the disk version (by editing the config file) but you just can't use the big map without a chance of crashing.
I tried to change "config.lcl" but it does not seem to change the in game resolution. Strange, also in the config tool I had the game set to 1024x768 but it still lists 800x600 in the config.lcl file.

Edit - looks like maybe use config.div instead - will try

You can change the game resolution in the config.div file.
I see that it works, but as was said by bengeddes, it crashes when I look at the big map. That is a drag because I have crap marked all over that thing. Anyone have a workaround? Thanks
I don't recall anyone reporting a way to help with the main map crashes when playing the disk version in higher than supported resolutions. The frequency of the crashes are system and resolution dependent, so you could try a lower resolution.
On my computer, at 1280x720 opening the main map would occasionally crash (though that made text a little small on my monitor, anyway, before the font enlargement patch); at 1152x864 opening the map would rarely ever cause a crash (unfortunately, rare enough I'd forget to save first as a precaution, so I ended up going back to 1024x768).

thanks Raze, 1024x768 isn't so bad
there is something to be said for stability as well!
