I recently fired up DD recently after a several month break. I went into the config div to change the resolution to 1920x1200 but when i go to save it acts as tho i click on save as and brings up a list of files as if i click on save as instead of save.
Any ideas?
I assume you tried overwriting the existing config.div file in the 'save as' dialog? You could try saving it elsewhere and then copying it back to the Divine Divinity folder.

If you run Notepad (etc) as administrator, does that let you saved directly? Windows Vista/7 may not like you changing files in the game folder if you install to the default Program Files location.

If you run the configtool.exe program, can you not select the desired resolution? I'm not sure if you use the disk configtool to switch to software mode if the GOG configtool will switch it back to Direct3D.
I can run the config tool and set it to 1920x1200 and hit ok but it always seems to revert to 1024x768.
Upon starting the game is does appear to be running in 1920x1200. albeit no fog.
How do you run notepad as admin?
If you right click on the shortcut or executable for Notepad (or the DD configuration tool) you can select Run as Administrator. To always run as administrator, right click the shortcut/executable, select Properties and check that option in the Compatibility tab.

The loading screen / main menu background images are in 1024x768, 800x600 and 640x480 resolutions, so until you get into the game it may not appear to be at your desired resolution.

If you don't have any fog of war (a glitch that happened to me once in the disk version when I reloaded an old save and re-entered the Dark Forest to check something; it was fine the first time), you can save under a new name (just to be safe) and replace the shroud.* file in your save folder with the corresponding version from the '..\Divine Divinity\main\startup' folder (or from a different save that has the fog of war).

Different file extensions are associated with different areas of the game;
.0 / .x0 = Ferol (Aleroth, Ars Magicana, etc)
.1 / .x1 = Verdistis, Council Hall
.2 / .x2 = Dark Forest
.3 / .x3 = Black Ring dungeons
.4 / .x4 = Wastelands

Each save is a separate subfolder in the '..\Divine Divinity\savegames' folder.
Under Vista/7, depending on how the user accounts are set up, if you install the game to the default Program Files path, Windows can create separate savegame folders for each user, and then map that folder to the game's savegame folder (so it will just see the saves for the relevant user).
C:\Users\ %account name% \AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Divine Divinity\savegames
Thank you sir i believe ive got it running at 1920x1200. In the graphic options i see where you can disable/able fog and when i enable it it seems to make no difference. The fog of war works perfectly but i assume the fog in graphics options means fog as in the fog you encounter in the morning?
There is no optional ground fog type effect in the game.

The fog setting is in the performance section of the graphics options, so maybe it is just a different way of doing something on low end systems. Even when I had a moderately low end system when the disk version of DD was released, though, I didn't notice a difference changing that setting (it may only be relevant in certain areas or situations).
Ahh ok...
Thank you for your assistance.
