Hi, I bought Beyond divinity, but I've got a little problem. When I change resolution from 640x480 to any higher, game become very slow. Running, fingting, everything is so slow, that even the fight against a rat takes few minutes. Do you have any idea, what should I do? I play on Windows Vista with the latest drivers for my graph. card.

Try this first, close the game, right click the game icon, click Properties, click the Compatibility tab, uncheck "Run this game in compatibility mode for" (if it is checked) and check mark "Run this game as an administrator" at the bottom. Start the game and see if it runs normally.
Double check your video drivers to make sure they are the latest version, right click the desktop, click Personalize, click Display Settings, click Advanced settings, on the Adapter tab, click Properties, click the driver tab and check the Driver Date against the
latest driver at or [url=http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us]Nvidia for your card. Widows update does not always update the video drivers.

If that doesn't help here are some basic things to check
Make sure, when installing the game, that you right click the setup exe and click "Run as administrator" from the dialog. If you only double click the exe, without doing the above, Vista may block some disk writes the game tries to do which can affect stability of the install.
After Installing, right click the game icon, click Properties, click Compatibility and check mark the "Run this program as an administrator" option.

If you are running a dual core processor?? you might try setting the affinity by starting the game, pressing Alt-Tab, right click the taskbar and opening the Task Manager, find the Beyond Divinity exe (div.exe . . . I think) under the processes tab, right click on it, select Set Affinity , uncheck all but CPU 0. Close the Task Manager, maximize the game and try playing
If you are running an AMD dual core processor you might try the AMD Dual Core Optimizer by following the link in this thread. It stopped some stuttering problems I had with Painkiller on my laptop.
Only one last suggestion, try right clicking the game icon, select Properties, Compatibility and check the "Run this game in compatibility mode for" and selecting the different options one at a time starting with XP and working your way back to the older versions.
I would also suggest you send DeathKnight at Larian your dxdiag.txt file.
Click Start, Run, type in dxdiag. Give it a moment to open and press the "save all information" button. Should save a dxdiag.txt file to the location you choose.
Send the file to "info at larian dot com and mention DeathKnight in the subject line and ask the message be forwarded to David".
Include a description of the problem . . .
Sorry I haven't helped . . . unchecking the compatibility is the only thing I have heard that fixes the slow down and even then only for a few since it seems to be a driver or hardware problem rather than a game problem. Hopefully DeathKnight may be able to help.

This post seems to address your problem but on Win 7. . . which is of no real help.
You might also look at this post and try setting the affinity with RunFirst.

It works for Vista too. In fact, I discovered that the workaround was necessary in Vista because it was the first OS I used that took advantage of my full 4 GB of RAM, thus the problem cropped up with Vista / Win7 x64 but not XP x86.
Attached is an updated image of the workaround.

That's great, I assume you did not need to set the affinity only the memory?

Yeah, I only need to use the memory tweak and set the compatibility mode of the game to Windows 98 / ME to get a fully playable game on my dual-core intel.

Just thought I'd chime in to say that I've experienced the same slowdown and it was fixed by limiting the memory. Hoping for an official fix for this, it's a pain having to restart everytime, as I do use some memory intensive programs.

Look at this post for a link to RunFirst and an image showing how to tweak the path in the game shortcut. With RunFirst you don't have to set affinity manually since it will automatically set it when you start the game. . . =)

Hi all , I just bought Divine Divinity and Beyond the first game is perfect just like the 3 cd-rom version but Beyond is real slow and the graphics quality its not even close to Divine Div. Ihave a tri-core system Windows 7 don't know much on the part of fixing things on my comp and as I can see must of what i see here is for Vista not W7, can you tell me if it applies for W7 I have tried some of the simple stuff here but don't dare try anything else don't want to mess the PC I mostly know how to install stuff and the shorcut thing mostly but more than that and I go Kaboom, thanks for any reply.
Hi again all just wanted to add that I tried the desktop thing having clicked run as administrator, compatibility to win 98/me, and disable desktop composition, running it like this improves a lot the slownest of the game still crappy graphics no matter what resolution compared to Divine Divinity. If anyone knows of something better I might fill adventurous and try it even if I mess up thanks again for answers!!!!

I have used all of the Vista advice on Win 7 without any problems. I can't seem to get into BD like I did DD so I can't offer much help since I am only about 1/3 thru it. Always find myself playing something else.

The trick that seems to fix the slow problem in Win 7 is limiting the memory available to the game. Make sure you make note of your original setting prior to changing it since you have to change it back after playing the game. That's why I don't like this solution, it has to be done / undone every time. Still . . . it seems to fix the slow down on SOME systems. See the attached image for how to do the memory limit. 2048 seems to work the best for most folks.
