I encountered and solved a strange bug / game crash. I just post it here in case someone could have the same problems like I had.

The bug occurred in the Catacombs Levels of Act3 after you get sealed in together with the damned ones dark bishop. (dungeon that can't be skipped cuz it leads into Act4) The game always crashed when I tried to save my game (quicksave / regular save, it didn't matter).

Cause: In the first level of the catacombs the goddess Raan appears and tells you not to kill unarmed soldiers. If you or one of the monsters kills an unarmed soldier, then she tells you that "you have failed the test". After that I couldn't save the game anymore.

Solution: The only way to avoid this crash / bug from happening is to succeed in the test. The goddess will then say something like "You succeeded in the test". To make things easier: Use pause mode and target only monsters that attack the unarmed. Don't use piercing weapons like bows it might happen that one piercing arrow kills the unarmed by mistake.

Just to let you know.

Pain in the ass bug. Had to reload close to 30-40 times, and I was lucky enough for a Hammer spell to hit the centre of 3 Shadows, and taking all of them out without it hitting the Unarmed asswipes. Seems like the penalty for the Unarmed folks to die is that you can't save the game from that point on, pretty scary prospect.

lets just say i past all the tests..collected the crystal fragment, got transported out of catacombs done a save and guess what..still crashed..have to say this is appalling..c'mon larian get a grip..crashing a game when you fail a test is bad enough but to do it when you pass it is a complete joke..will not be playing this game again..my saves are completely ruined now.9 yrs ..and in that time they could never have done a work around? you have to be kidding me.

This wasn't an issue in the original release. It has just been reported with the anthology version (Steam, updated GOG version, etc). It seems the changes made when adding higher resolution support, some performance improvements and Win 7 compatibility fixes may have effected something that causes a problem if that test is failed.

i did succeed in the test then saved and it still crashed..been talking to Raze @ larian about ths and e-mailed him my save folder to figure out what the problem is..awaiting response..but either way this needs sorted..a game should not crash like that even if you fail..i do understand bugs like this happen ..i just have to be patient..but when your so eager to play the game you get a bit upset.
Also apologies to Raze who has been more than helpful here on GoG and steam..it is really appreciated.

To the person who PMed me about this problem, but has PMs blocked so I can not reply:

There was a recent patch for Beyond Divinity (see here) to bring the game version to 1.506, though I'm not sure if it would help. Since GOG makes their own installers, I'm not sure if the launcher will download/install the patch, or if you have to wait for a release from GOG (I don't have the GOG version installed ATM, but should have time to check that in the next day or two, after I free up some hard drive space).

Kevjards' saves never made it to me. If you wish you can zip your last save before you are unable to save and email it to me (raze@larian.com) to check out.
It is possible to get the GOG version to download the patch, but I couldn't get it to install.

If you make a shortcut to the launcher program in the BD folder, right click it and add --path . at the end of the 'Target' text box (see below for example; path depends on where you installed the game), running the launcher will give you the option to download the patch.

"D:\games\Beyond Divinity\Launcher.exe" --path .

I was unable to get the patch running in Win7 x64, though. I added the main set of registry values that I think the patch should be checking (for the install path and version info) to match what is listed in XP with the anthology version of BD, but the patch never got far enough running to bring up a window.

I extracted the contents of the patch files using the Inno Setup Unpacker, and compressed the game files into a self extracting 7-Zip archive (remane to .exe to run if you don't have an archive manager that supports the .7z format).

Here is an unofficial alternate download (1.8MB), containing the 4 files in the patch (div.exe, DivDialogSystem.dll, Osiris.dll, slash1.dll). Extract it into the Beyond Divinity folder, overwriting the files there (make a backup first, if you are so inclined).
