I've never played a turn-based RPG before so I'm completely new to this kind of game. This may sound like a silly question but please be kind.
Is it a good idea to have some party members who use melee attacks and some party members who use ranged attacks? The reason I ask is because if one party member uses a sword for a close in attack won't that person be harmed by the attacks from a person at a distance. Suppose someone uses oil or water or fire to attack an opponent. If you have a party member close to the opponent trying to use a sword you might harm your own party member. Is it better to have your party members all using ranged attacks or all using melee attacks?
