I played the new version 3.0.33.118 and in my opinion the Explorer Mode has become harder then in the earlier version (played 3.0.7.398).
Is there really a difference between Explorer Mode and Classic Mode?

Yes. The initial release was generally considered to be too easy; the last update (with mixed opinions) a little too hard.
The difficulty will continue to be adjusted in future updates, as the AI changes are implemented, new skills added, etc.

Thanks for your answer.
At the moment the enemies got too many skills and armour.
