I bought the Definitive Edition and got annoyed that GOG Galaxy has to open every time; so i downloaded the offline installer - now i have 2 versions of the game. #1 - Definitive Edition (opens via galaxy) and #2 - Divine Edition (opens offline via desktop)

What is the difference?? how did i end up with 2 different versions? I'm new to the series and hella confused.

Check you games catalog - You should have the Definitive Edition and a Section Titled Divine Ascension Goodies

The Devine is only some extra goodies not - not a difference in the game itself.

I do not use Galaxy so maybe its named differently there but it is the same game.

Have Fun

FYI I don't use Galaxy, but have it installed, to provide help, and critique GOG.
Galaxy opens because Default Shortcut opens Galaxy, which starts the game.
It's no different to how Steam default shortcuts works

With both you can change shortcut to open game Exe directly
Unlike Steam, because Galaxy is optional, that will never start Galaxy.

Alternative, again like Steam, you can run art startup, and close minimizes to System Tray, and it stays in the background.
Like most things PC, setting Config to suit your needs, will vastly improve the user experience to your choices, not the stores.

Of course I still recommend no store client gaming, but I only do Single player.
Also note this is old school now rare IP based Co-op, Online, LAN, even split screen co-op.
No Galaxy required for Divinity Engine Co-op (Includes Baldur's Gate 3)
I don't do co-op either, this fangirls not for sharing. (Games, User help is all I will share)
