Anyone else having this problem with D1? It appears to be a problem that is completely random. Sometimes the game will freeze at the end of a battle or a turn, sometimes just when I'm moving a unit. Pain in the ass! It also happens about two or three times per gaming hour. Thank the devs for an autosave feature that saves me from replaying too much.
My system specs are: I7 920, 8 G Ram, ATI 4850.
I guess I'm just more or less curious if alone with this issue.
Thanks.

I have the same issue and I have no idea what the cause, or a fix is.
I've been digging the game so much though, that I have been:
>saving very often
>then, when it freezes or crashes, I alt tab to desktop and from task manager, shut down the game, and relaunch. This takes very little time, and re-loading also takes very little time so it doesn't take me out of the game much (except, all that saving is a pain).

Unfortunately, that is the exact thing I have been doing as well. It isn't so bad because I have the autosave feature on and so at worst I restart the turn. It just sucks though when I finish a really good battle and then....whoops must relaunch.
There is another who has the same problem as us only he was wise enough to mark his statement as a question. I am monitoring this one.
Hopefully Disciples II does not have the same issue.
Have you got win 7?
Win 7, same story here. It plays fine for a bit, then freezes. First the Gothics fiasco (okay, that's Nvidia's problem), then the Journeyman problem (fixed, thanks GOG team!), and now this.
I almost done shopping here.

Well, as I said somewhere alse in this forum; I have solved the problem. Starting the game from the Icon the "game" folder from the start manu is the better choise. The game gives almost no problem.
Thanks, I'll try that.

If this works then I owe a debt of gratitude. I will try this immediately or at least tomorrow and report back.
And for the record I do have Win 7/64
Well, I tried what you suggested Itlodeo. Unfortunately in 1/2 hr I had 3 crashes.

Sorry, my suggestion was erroneous. I had the same problems, but in a strange way.
I had almost no problem with the Mountain clan campaign, so I believed that was the solution. Now I'm playing with the Empire campaign and the game crashes frequently.
There is another strage thing: in the same scenario after a period of continual crashes, suddenly they stop.

I'm currently playing the Undead campaign....and you could say it's killing me. :)
Your suggestion did improve my graphic performance oddly. My native screeen resolution, initially, started the game in the smaller windowed mode. Using the config that comes with the download, and maxing out the options, I can play a full screen game but most times my into movie graphics colors are just all over the place. Also I find the crashes are more frequent. By using the icon in the game folder I get the full screen version without any graphical kaleidoscope.
Strange.

Time for an update.

I have NOT solved this issue. I have made it less noticeable. Hopefully this will help anyone else experiencing this same annoyance.

After installing the game ensure that it is being run as an admin., in compat. mode and that ALL other options for display and colors etc are checked. Next, right click on the desktop to open screen resolution option. DON"T DO ANYTHING just leave it open on the desktop. Only then can you start your game and not have crash every other turn........just once every 10-15 turns or when you try to quit out of the game.

Also, I did notice that with the re-launch of GOG many, many games has a compatible with Win 7 designation on their game card.
Disciples Gold is NOT one of them. Buyer beware.

Good luck.

I managed to tackle the crashing in Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit by applying following attached settings. (compatibility mode : W98/Me, run as admin, disable visual themes)

And also by forcing v-sync on from nividia properties, so that the FPS is 60 all the time, and not 1000-2000. Having so high FPS has no advantage and its unnecessarily heating and straining the GPU which might also cause crashing.
