Despite what the review says, this game is here. I forgot all about this thing and am surprised as anyone that it even exists, let alone that it's on GOG.

Fond memories of the early entries in the series, but I've heard mixed things about this one.
Anyone have any thoughts on it?

I'll probably be the lone king of this board for awhile...

Jock? Did you mean joke? A jock is a slang term for an athlete, so yeah... this game isn't a jock, but I don't think that's what you meant.

I've been looking forward to this one in English for a while on PSVR. The game was cancelled due to the actual Earthquake in Japan right before its release, back in 2011. The story behind this one is actually fascinating as the original creators of the series purchased the franchise from Irem Software and have been working to restore it ever since. They were disappointed the title was shelved permanently instead of temporarily. They actually made a spin-off to the franchise as well, titled City Shrouded in Shadows, which is about Kaiju attacking Japan and plays just like Disaster Report. Its been a long road for this game, and I am really happy it finally got a release Stateside. It's been a blast to play in Japanese, but that's not my native language by any stretch so I don't understand a lot of the dialogue between people without needing to stop and translate important bits. I highly recommend Disaster Report 4 if you liked the older ones, and City Shrouded in Shadows (if you can get past the language barrier) if you like Godzilla, Evangelion, or Ultraman; both are unique nowadays and without support we wont see games like this.
Back in the past I bought PS3 for this game (in 2011 before disaster), first two games on PS2 was great, AMAZING, but part 4 on GOG for that price? PS4 version ok, but PC games used to be cheaper, not the same.
So is the bad reviews aimed at the high price or is the game that bad? Its sitting at an overall 2.5/5 on GoG right now, and I want to get it, but if its not great then I will save my money. I played the demo on Steam, i am intrigued but 60 bucks is 60 bucks.

I think he's referring to that one "review" that's titled "You must be jocking"...? Too bad there are so few votes/reviews yet and only one of them made an effort to actually talk about the actual game. Not that I'm super interested in this game, it would have been nice though to read actual opinions and not some pointless "1/5 for reasons unknown" bullshit :/
Played through the game over the past few days... it's interesting in its own way, but not exactly impressive - in fact, it fails to impress in many situations.

There is some exploring and your typical 'collect all the outfits' that many Japanese games seem to have, and you do run into a couple of moral dillemmas... but the whole thing could be better represented as they often have little or laughable consequences. I also feel like several areas of the game (such as the whole hunger/thirst level) are there just 'because reasons' and don't serve much purpose other than reducing your stress levels - you can pretty much beat the game while ignoring them for the most time, it's almost a walking/exploring simulator that happens to have disaster mechanics.

The gameplay is alright - not amazing, not too terrible (camera can be annoying inside small rooms, however) and a gamepad is strongly recommended.

Try before you buy, not a game for just about anyone... and definitely not at its current price. Probably wouldn't go over 3.5/5, if that much, in its current state.

Borrowed it on Switch, it's not bad there, a little vague on letting you know what happened though. Managed to get myself killed and it just looped over without any indication that I had lost, thought it crashed until I went back to my save and tried again only to realize what had actually happened.

I would say it's worth getting, especially since it's on GOG, but I don't really see it as a $60 game.
I enjoyed the previous entries back in the day on ps2, but I bought them cheap second hand. I would gladly give this one a go, but not for that price. Japanese devs/publishers of low budget titles should really reconsider their pricing. There is a market for games like that, but few people are willing to pay such crazy money. Western indie/budget titles usually target 1/2 or 1/3 of the AAA price, so it's easy to give them a chance, but this? You want me to pay more for Disaster Report 4 than I did for Cyberpunk 2077? Thanks, but no thanks.

4.4/5 from verified owners.

Get this game if you liked it. Don't mind the dumb trolls who hate this game for some weird reasons.

DR4 >>>>> Boring Cyberpunk 2077. It's the latter I'd give no more than $4-6. DR4 is worth $60.

Oh, so you know for a fact that a game that isn't even out yet is boring and worth only $4-6?
Tell us, how is humanity faring in the future, from which you obviously came?
I'm specifically curious what people who've played both this and other entries in the series think, to see how this compares to past titles. People who've played the past titles should know what to expect, and can appreciate the games' uniqueness that mainstream reviewers may not have the patience for, and would thus rank DR4 unfavorably. I think if people know whether this is faithful to the rest of the series (in terms of story, gameplay, humor, etc) then we can better know if this is worth a buy.

Those who didn't like the other entries would probably only see this game as a jock.
