Thank again Yannos. It works indeed :) I was scared to do that earlier, I thought it would overwrite my old profile.
hmmm.... I am using Vista and neither glidewrapper or win98/me compatibillity helps, bit crash as soon as I select a quest...
I am experiencing the same problem as keropi. The game seems to start up fine, but if you select Arena, for instance, it crashes to windows.
Mine crashes on mission launch with win98 compatibility with or without glide wrapper. However it runs fine with win95 compatibity and glide wrapper. don't know if that helps.
I must say that I am using Windows XP. Maybe Glidewrapper doesn't work as well with Vista :( . Here are you specs in case it matters :
Windows XP sp3
AMD 4200+ dual core.
ATI HD4850 512mb
2 gb ddr3
I don't think it's the Glide wrapper that's the issue with Vista so much as it is Vista's 95/98 compatibility mode. Even if I use Direct3D or software rendering, the game will still crash the instant I click "Arena" under that compatibility mode.
On my older XP-based system, however, it's a non-issue using the 95/98 compatibility mode.
I've got to figure out how to run a 98SE virtual machine one of these days, just to get some of these games to work properly.
Today I tried it on my retro-pc with a voodoo3 (K6-II 450mhz, win98se and 256MB ram) and after enabling Glide , it is smoother than software mode on my vista/C2D 3.16ghz/8800gtx pc LOL
Note for ppl using the glide wrapper - launch the 'Configurator' in your Start menu (under the 'Glide Wrapper' section), and select the application override button. Then choose Die By The Sword from the list and override the 'resolution' setting to 'try high res'. That way you can play the game in the prettier glide mode at a full 1280x1024 resolution.
In other news, so glad I bought this again (had the original when it came out), it's really a unique little gem.
My game also crashes when I try to go to the quest, arena or tournament tabs, but for some reason the tutorial launches and I can test out the 3D acceleration.
So the game actually crashes on the "user selection" screen rather than the 3d game part. I'm guessing this has something to do with vistas different way of handling users than in previous windows.
But has anyone found a sollution to this? I would like to get to play the game it self in HW accelerated mode.
I know this is an old topic but hopefully someone will notice this post and has a sollution for my problem:)
Solution found to Vista crashing. sort of.
The fix is to move the mouse very rapidly when you click the quest button.
Edit: doesn't seem to consistently work, after a second try.
It must be random.
Just keep trying to run the game, and around 1/30 tries it actually starts.
Don't know yet if any fixes to other old games will help, like setting the program to one cpu.
Or if installing mouse drivers will help. Haven't tried it.
Edit: -tried the cpu fix. nothing.
The glide wrapper does do wonders for the graphics though.

Try to set Windows 95 compatibility mode on game .exe with this <a href="http://www.zeus-software.com/downloads/nglide">glide wrapper (nGlide 0.90)
Working link below:

No more need for the Glide-wrapping now that there's DBTS Xtended. Installing that will provide a new Direct3D9 renderer with a bit of extra eye candy to boot, along with making it much more stable on modern systems.

Wow that works a treat, thanks! seems fo fix the menu animation bug i was having too.
Xtended mod doesn't work for me. Main quest doesn't even start, because of some "palette missing" problems. In the Limb for Limb, when want to drink a potion, there is an error, saying, red.bmp is missing. Can anyone help me, please?
