Realistically, we'll probably never get D2 here. I know there was a lot of interest towards the end of last year in D2R and specifically, people had said if there were content updates happening, they might be interested in picking it up.

I wanted to do a quick summary of D2R and where it's at now, and where I think it's headed.

First, there are definitely ladder seasons happening. Season 2 just started recently.

Second, there have been balance patches and content additions. There are new runewords on ladder, and most recently, they patched the game to add terrorized or "Terror" zones. What these zones do is create monsters that are higher level than you no matter what level you are.

The main purpose of the terror zones is to help expedite leveling. Also, I can't be certain, but it feels like they've nerfed the XP curve after you hit 90, so it feels much easier to work towards 99.

The new runewords are hit and miss, some are really nice, some seem kind of not so good for the runes they cost. Personally, the big balances changes I was most excited to see were a buff to physical bowazon damage, and Whirlwind getting set almost to 1.09 levels, when it was almost OP.

They're certainly trying to create more viable builds while not nerfing established meta builds into the ground, from what I've seen. However, I haven't poured over every patch note, so I couldn't tell you exactly everything that's been changed.

Where do I see the game going? I see them honestly trying to get more balance back to 1.08 and 1.09 levels, when the game was at its apex. I see them creating more runewords for sure, and I see them contemplating on creating actual content though I won't pretend to know whether they actually release it or not.

This might be a good time to give the game a look, or maybe look at some recent gameplay videos of specific elements you want to see, like changes to fire sorcy or assassin changes, or seeing a video of WW and how it performs now.

I'm still reticent about Blizzard and how it's handled its gross misconduct, and I abhor the abuse of power that comes with these big companies at times. In the short term however, I'd say Blizzard is trying to mitigate the damage it did to itself with D2R, though I'd say part of that is because Overwatch 2 got a lot of flack for its business model recently and of course, Diablo Immortal which I never touched and was told by close friends never to touch.

Safe travels, adventurers

Thanks for the info! Terror zones and the new charms are exclusive to multiplayer ATM. The devs said they would try to bring it to single player, but there are some difficulties doing that. Your friends were right about Immortal. The only good thing about it is you get to customize how your toon looks. Aside from that it's a phone game, and a really buggy one too.

I completely forgot to mention charms. Have a great night!
