I agree.
Thankfully Diablo 2 is so easy to mod, I ended up making my own mod where I can basically create any set and unique item through using my own cube recipes. (I exported every last one of them, and runeword items as well, to files; a fun little project.)
It's absolutely true that having all the items you want makes the game boring, but the ridiculous amount of grinding needed to get particular items legitimately is infinitely worse.
